Topic: Tool for rear wheel bearings CB500/550

I’m gearing up to replace the rear wheel bearings on my CB500k while my swingarm is off at Hondaman’s. I did this job 12 years ago, and am reviewing the procedure and collecting parts. I remember tapping the old bearings out was a challenge.

Have any if you used a removal tool like this?

I like the concept and it looks like it would work, but I remember these bearings required some hard blows to come out and I wonder if this type of remover would hold up. One reason I like the looks of this tool is it seems I wouldn’t have to mess with that pronged inner spacer.

Any advice, encouragement or ridicule is welcome!

I bought one like that, but have not used it yet.
That is the type recommended in my Goldwing service manuals. What I have used in the past is a long bolt welded to the bearing race and a big hammer. I tried a slide hammer bearing puller, the bearings would not budge, and the part that grips the bearing bent.

I tried a bearing puller on my 500 as well and wouldn't budge. As a bonus I also messed up the little collar that goes inside the larger bearing so I had to replace that. Be careful if yours has a collar, they damage easily. I ended up using a large brass drift and a small sledge hammer. It took a lot of beating but they eventually came out. I did us a motion pro set, along with the old bearings, to put the new ones in.

I use a wedge-type concrete anchor to grip one of the bearings. Then I bash it out from the other side with a punch or piece of steel rod. The second one's easy with the spacer removed. Might cost you a buck fifty.
