Topic: 750k Frame Paint?

Good morning,
I'm getting ready to start prepping for painting my frame. Choosing to paint vs powder coat because the frames were originally paint. I'm curious if the original black paint was satin or gloss? What products have you had success with? Did you clearcoat?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I want to say the original paint was more of a satin, based on my bikes. I have had good luck with VHT Fame/roll bar paint.

As a price point, I was quoted $175 to blast/coat a CB500 frame.

Thanks in advance.  I and many others have found RustOleum appliance epoxy to be satisfactory in terms of gloss and original appearance for the frame

I would say the original finish is more of a semi-gloss.

Paint vs powder coating is a potato-potahto thing. They both have strengths and weaknesses and neither is materially superior.

I like paint because it can easily be repaired if damaged. I am a big fan of this one from Harbor Freight. I have used it on multiple SOHC4's and it is virtually indistinguishable from stock.

forum consensus seems to be rustoleum appliance epoxy black with no primer. I have used it and it looks good. it's a very low gloss black.

I was quoted here in Denver $550-600 for a 750 frame and other black parts associated.

Joining a little late...
The quote i got here in Portland is in line with 750KS’s.  i’m with C2YT on the Rustoleum without epoxy. I will not strip the frame to the metal, but prep the rust spots and factory paint before coating.
1. How robust is this finish?  (Assuming meticulous prep, of course)
2. My rims need paint: same solution?  2k clear topcoat recommended?

I'm a POR 15 fan, it's very tough. Use chassis black top coat for a beautiful covering that is tough as nails.

I’ve given 2 frames to the powder coater to have them done (semi gloss), mainly because I can’t spray 2-pack paint safely. I could have used a rattle can, but glad I didn’t. The number of times the carbs have accidentally over flowed, I would have no rattle paint left on the frame! Over flows have been very minimal, but the powder coat stands up to fuel spills much better than normal paint.

First off, semi gloss black.  I prefer powder coat, my powder guy charges $100 to blast and coat - a no brainer for me.  I have 3 bikes with powdercoat, never have had to touch up from damage.

No, my H2 came to me as a basket case and the frame had already been powdered and was in perfect condition.



However, now that my K6 project is about done, I have decided that an H1 500 project is next and will be taking the that frame to him for semi gloss black powder.

No, my H2 came to me as a basket case and the frame had already been powdered and was in perfect condition.



However, now that my K6 project is about done, I have decided that an H1 500 project is next and will be taking the that frame to him for semi gloss black powder.

Steve, Your H2 is a 73? I wondered does it have as much 'kick' as the early H2's ?

Hi, Mind if I ask which paint you used.....I see an appliance epoxy in black stainless steel, a black Gloss and a black mentioned on the internet. Would you have a product code? Did you spray or brush?

I used this same paint before on a bike I bought,I had the frame blasted(surface rust)first and it worked well.When it cured,it turned darker  and was good quality,even though they don't recommend it for outdoor applications..
