Replacing rear shocks on 72 CB750

I work on bikes a lot so though switching the old rear shocks for new ones would be easy.  Prob is that upper mufflers are in the way of getting the bottom bolt all the way out.  Is there some trick or tip rather than me removing upper mufflers first?
