New Guy From Northern AZ
« on: January 21, 2020, 02:22:16 PM »
Hi all, new guy here with a couple of CB bikes, kinda.

The kinda refers to a project I have which will be powered by a CB550 engine. I just bought 3 (more like 2.5 really) engines this last weekend – more on that later. The project, which I have wanted to do for quite a while now, is a Honda CB engine in a 1960s Montgomery Wards (a.k.a. Benelli) Mohave frame. Think Rickman-Metisse style frame like Steve McQueen rode.

I had not been ready to move forward with the project since I didn’t have an engine. Then about a month ago a Craigslist ad popped up for a bunch of CB550 engines/stuff for $75. Now I have 3 engine cases, 2 barrels, 2 heads and other items. I call it 2.5 because I don’t have a cam (I’ll be asking about them later) or carbs (I do have access to a set). I am figuring that along with the engine I will be using a lot of CB550 electric components.

FWIW, the Wards bikes I have are basically 3 different models that came to me via various trades/purchases. I’ve kept the 4 stroke models, I have 6 right now (long story) and sold off 1 rare 175cc (2-smoke) project and I have 1 more of those to sell off. That will fund the Wards CB550 project.

I already have a bunch of questions that I will be searching and posting questions about. My first will likely be about the parts I picked up so I can figure out the best way to utilize them.

This project may take a while since I am looking to run an IMCA Sport Compact once I find a good car. I’ve had the Wards bikes since 2004-ish, so I can be patient . . . kinda.

Hi Scott, thanks, I'm in Cottonwood so we're pretty close.

Hi MD, thanks. I will and I'll get some pics up. I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in non-CB bikes here.

Welcome from another newbie here from Chandler… Just a little south of you!

I’ve always got a few projects in the pipeline, too, but I think we might move in slightly different directions.

Thanks DF. I tend to move in a lot of directions when it comes to cars and bikes. Have fun with your projects.

Hi, sorry for the delay, been busy with house related stuff.

No progress really, just more questions and gathering info and ideas. I really need to get the questions (electrics, instruments and motor mount hardware right now) posted so I can move forward a bit. I also would like to sell the third case I have to generate a bit of project cash.
