CB350F RestoMod Project
« on: May 27, 2020, 11:59:26 am »
Hi Everyone, I remember using this forum in the 90s, so great to still have such a wonderful resource.  I am beginning my project in earnest.  Here's a couple pictures to start with.

This is all the original paint I sprayed 2K clear over.  Used stickers to cover some bigger paint blemishes.

Welcome back and good luck!!  I just finished restoring a cb350f this winter so if you have a question I can try to help!  The biggest tip I have is NOT to use anything but OEM pistons and rings if you get into her that far, my aftermarket ones were junk and I had to do the top end all over again in 100 miles, many on the forum have had issues like that from sub par rings/pistons.

Thanks a lot!  Ok, I still haven't even done a complete compression test, but I will since I bought the tool to do at least that.  The bike was in somebody's backyard for quit a long time, but I think it may have been covered.  I don't know the whole story, bought it from my brother, he found it somewhere.  The fuel tank was missing the petcock, and I was worried I couldn't bring it back as it was rusty inside.  Once I realized it was ok, then I figured I'd go for it because I was considering selling or parting.  Then I realized how few of these that are left, even with original factory paint.  Anyway, I'll try to update the thread with my slow progress.

The bike has almost 14K miles on the engine, hoping it is good to go.  What is a high mileage CB350F  ?   ;D
In my history, I got a CB550 and CB750 back up to snuff.  Sold those though.  Currently at 3 motorcycle projects, one running bike in my garage.  LOL

I have two 350f, the one I just did a full restore on had 16000 and sat since the 80s.  My other one has 27000 on original piston/rings and runs awesome.

Thanks 574!  I read your thread about the seized engine affair, great learning experience.  Mine is not locked up, but I have had it in my garage for like 5 years in humid weather.  I make sure I move the engine once every few months.  i was scared the engine oil would be black sludge like on the other CB-Fs I worked on, but this one  looks almost clean on the dipstick.   Things are still looking good to go.  The carbs are what I'm most worried about.  At least I got them off the motorcycle, but I knew how from previous experience and it involves a thick wooden broom handle or dowel.
