Jug gasket question
« on: June 05, 2020, 07:54:08 AM »
Hello all,
I have been riding my  bike around and the valve cover and head gasket weeps ("78 CB550K4).  I thought I fixed it and changed the gaskets out on the tappet covers but it is coming from the valve cover and head.  The Jug gasket does not leak.  If I change the valve cover and head gasket is it recomended to change the Jug gasket at the same time?  Even thoguh it is not leaking?  After doing my reasearch it is not much more work to do and if I change the head gasket will it enduce a leak on the jug?

Lastely, my kit I was going to buy is from 4into1.  Is it recomended to spary any gasket sealer on the jug and head gaskets that come in the kit?

NO to gasket goo of any kind anywhere, does the kit come with the " pucks" between head and cam cover as you need them and make sure you read carfully about refitting cam cover or you WILL bend vavles
As to base gasket yes do it at same time as removing head releases all pressure on it

Ok got it.....no goo of any kind, anywhere!!!

I will double check for the pucks.  I was going to loosen the valve adjustment screws and use the rubber band method to hold them up when installing the valve cover on.

Thanks for the feed back......off to order parts and get a torque wrench!!!
