CB350F Exhaust Stud Replacements
« on: October 07, 2020, 12:36:37 PM »
Hey all! I'm in the thick of my CB350F restoration project and I've hit a bit of a hang up.

When I got the bike, one of the exhaust studs was snapped off (broken inside the hole so I'll have to figure out how to extract it).

I've scoured the internet for replacements but there are essentially none available with my exact part #. I found one NOS stud on ebay which I ordered, but I'd really like to replace all 8 while I'm at it.

This is the part in question:

https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb350f-four-general-export_model14632/bolt-stud-6x50_90044333300/#.X34JEmdKi3c

Is there any reason something like this would NOT work?

https://www.walmart.com/ip/M6x50mm-304-Stainless-Steel-Double-End-Threaded-Stud-Screw-Bolt-50pcs/697233940

This is my first build so forgive my ignorance!

I would order from CMSNL but shipping to the US is expensive and they only have 6 in stock.

The 350 and 400 studs are pretty similar? The 400 ones are 6x47 and the 350 ones are 6x50. Does that 3mm make a significant difference? The 400 ones are available from DSS and CMSNL.
I've had mixed results using SS fasteners in engine cast alloy, I use antiseize but have still found corrosion on some - the corrosion eats the case alloy and there's not much meat in those threads... with the high temperature on the studs I might avoid it. And SS is considerably weaker than normal steel.

Thanks for the tip! DSS indeed has what I need.

I'm using an aftermarket exhaust so I'll do a test fit and see if the extra 3mm is mission critical.

I also found these, would this be a better material?

The DSS studs are pricey but if that's my only option I'll go with those.

These were still available oem from Honda just a couple years ago for a couple bucks each, I'd be surprised if they aren't still available. Have you checked a dealer?

No luck using my local dealers part finder but I sent in a parts request. Fingers crossed!
