replacing wheel bearings 82cb650sc
« on: February 25, 2007, 12:22:36 PM »
So I went to the local HOnda shop to try and buy some new wheel bearings and they are telling me the part numbers that all balls lists for my year/model are incorrect.  All balls is saying they ARE correct.

Through my own research it seems they might both be right:)

has ANYONE replaced wheel bearings on a 82 cb650sc that could shed some light on this?

I just looked at the Honda parts list for your bike, it list 6302u for the front and 6304u and 6305u for the back.  The parts listed at z1enterprises for your bike,  at least the front wheel (they sell the all balls kit) are 6302 2rs, which is the double shielded/sealed version of the 6302u bearing.  No grease needed with those.  Same OD, same everything, just an extra shield, which is a good thing.

:D glad I could help.  Those are actually the same parts for a 750, and I'm in the process of replacing those now.  Make sure you remove the rear reatining ring the RIGHT way (drill the circular peen marks with a bit thats 1+ size up od, just to break the seal).  If you don't, you run the risk of screwing up your hub, which I did when we had to cut the retaining ring out.

Actually the retaing ring on mine came out fairly easy.  It was just a threaded disc with two notches in it and it came right out.  probably means it wasnt in there the greatest to begin with which wouldnt surprise me.

I found that there are bearing numbers labeled 6304-2RS and 6205-2RS available and the ones in my rear are 6304U and 6305U.  Think those would be the replacements since they are the same four digit number?

I have the measurments of the 2RS bearings from a website but I cant find anywhere that lists the orginal stock honda measurements.

Supposedly my rear rear shares the same bearings as a 1982 750sc as well.
