My cb550 CHOPPER! project HELP PLZ
« on: June 07, 2020, 11:54:53 AM »
Gentleman here is my CB550 project that I'm currently working on I have a hardtail frame as you seen the picture which was told to me that it fit a CB750 however when I got it home looking at the mount I think otherwise in any case I have to re well new engine mounts to it. I will take any advice on that if you have some also if you see the neck I am not sure what that comes off of and what would fit inside of it any tips to figure that out I would appreciate. and as far as the engine goes it's in pieces on waiting to home the cylinder walls I've got a Brand New piston kit with new rings then I'll be installing. I'm going to lap the valves and install a new gasket set as they put it all together. I have two sets of carbs one are original and the other is from a CB750 which I heard the 750 carbs are a good upgrade. Any insights on the carb side appreciate before I rebuild the 750 carbs and figure out I can't use them any advice on this build would be very appreciated please help out in any insight would be helpful thank you.

There are a few more photos. I also need help in determining the correct neck cup size for the front end.

I found that my net cups fit right but the top sticks out a little bit. Is this okay. Also I plan to extend the forks so my overall plan is 2 put the stock neck in and then put fork extensions on. If anybody has some input here I would appreciate it I'd hate to put the new net cups in and have a failure on the road or it not work right thank you

Net cups? You mean the bearing races?

And I'd look for longer fork tubes before I'd used extensions.

Scott thank you for your reply. Yes on both accounts I recently ordered races and bearings for the neck because the old races and bearings send where I popped out the old races. The old style was the ball bearings and I was told the frame was originally for a CB750. On the account of the longer fork tubes this is what I was looking for but didn't know the correct wording so thank you for clarifying ap that.

I wish I could be more helpful. Truth is, with a chopper, there are lots of custom parts and fabricating.

Here I am so far. This is just a Mark up motor in it. I need to get the engine mounts welded in. But I'm having exhaust alignment issues. Any suggestions? It comes to close to the doesn't of the frame. I have 6in extended forks which need cleaning but are going to work awesome. Any hello would be appreciated

Is the holes in the neck empty?  Some frames are set up for Harley  fork. The neck then usually take races of about 1.980 diameter, top and bottom.  Honda races are very shallow and bottom would be larger than the top .
The frame  looks a lot like for a 2 cylinder bikem to me. Not Honda 750.
If you got a caliper measure top and bottom hole in the neck, and axle slots.
If you don't have a caliper, and plan on building this you will need it.

Do any mounts line up to motor? Your forks are way to long, you can slide them up a bit.
If you can edit title to add chopper , you might get more help.

754,
Thanks for the help. Yes I plan to raise up the forks a tad, the handle bars only allow up to where they are. Trying to get buckhorns to replace. Anyways, I will edit my post. As for caliper, I will order one today. I'm not sure what to measure. I will take a picture of the inside of the neck. It is empty, but it has a very small raised edge where I assumed stopped the races. The neck is overall 7 inches long. Nothing matched anything when puting the motor in. I chopped out every mount and will be starting new. Hope this helps. Please keep any advice coming. Thank you
