Topic: Ignition upgrade for 915

I am looking for an upgrade electronic ignition for my 915 cc build for street use. What are my options and what is your recommendations??

I have a Dyna2000 on my 915. I can't attest to it's performance as it's only had one brief run. I wanted electronic and I wanted a rev limiter to prevent me from blowing it up again. The module went out on a long trailer ride and I have a replacement ready to install courtesy of Dyna owning up to their previous issues. Dyna had some issues in their more recent past vs the Dyna III that has been flawless.

I surely wish it could be programmed to retard timing as well. It would be good for nitrous applications.

As I have researched electronic ignitions I have noticed that Cycle X has discontinued the power arc system and that C 5 have discontinued and stoped production of their ignition system.  Does anyone know why?? Also I have discovered That many people on the forum have had a lot of failures with the Dyna brand ignitions. What are my best options?.

The older Dyna S had lots of failures, but I'm not aware of any failures with the newer design. I was never a fan of the power arc/ C5, after a member had two fail with less than 1000 miles of use, not to mention the claims of performance compared to other ignitions that were distorted, or at least exaggerated.

In my opinion,  Dyna S is the best bang for the buck. I have personally never experienced a failure on either a street bike, or a full tilt dragbike. If you need a unit that advances or retards timing,  i have no experience with a street type ignition.

 I have been running Dyna 2000's on my CB and FJ for about 20 years I'd say.....no problems

Can a voltage regulator feeding the Dyna help in case of overcharging?
A small circuit that make sure that 14V is max or similar.

stopped counting the number of failed Dyna S i've seen in road racing. the idea of potting the electronics  with the pickups and all attached to a boiling engine is no bueno. maybe ok for street bikes that dont get that hot, or for dragsters that make short runs is ok, but as rule, electronics should stay away from heat, transistors dont like to be near it....
dont know the dyna 2000 that well. if the timing plate is just the pickup coils and no electronics to get fried, then it is a better design better in that sense, but at what? 400$? totally overpriced IMHO

ill stick to my GSXR boxes, never a failure in 13 years of racing/street riding, 30-50$ for perfectly working used ones , add a few dozen $ more for the rotor and pickups.
admittedly, not programmable but i only care for max advance with a slotted plate

The bike already has a voltage regulator. The regulator limits the maximum voltage. Some people seem to think that adjusting the stock regulator to a higher voltage will allow to system to generate more power at lower RPMs, but this is not true.

I ran the same DynaS unit in my road race sidecar for six seasons with no issues whatsoever.
I have used them in my dirt track and speedway motors previous to that and I've never had a failure.

On the C5 site, they said the optical pickups were failing at 200*, so they are going to a reluctance type pick-up like the DOHCs and about 99% of cars with distributors. (They also claimed that Hall-effect pickups like in my 40+ year old Gerex would fail at 200* ) In the old Power Arc hype, they claimed the reluctance pickups were inferior and inaccurate....
