Reinstalling the air box cb750k1
« on: June 11, 2020, 03:49:52 PM »
One of my k1 bikes has air pods from the previous owner. I'd like to take them off and out the stock air box back in. I'd like to do this without removing the carbs. Is that possible? I don't remember how I did it last time but I think I recall putting in the air box first then the carbs.

Carbs on the bike, just put the top half of the airbox in first.

..... and be ready for a death match to get the rubbers on the carbs. Be ready with a heat gun and lube to help.

Yeah. It's never easy. Fitting the air box is a little easier than getting the carbs onto the boots on the intake manifold side.

Any suggestions as to whether the carbs need to be adjusted for going to stock air box from pods? I know there has been a lot of discussion on the reverse scenario.

What jet do you have in there now ? I know there has been differing discussions but with the 4 or 5 K1's I have owned they all had 120 mains in them and were stock bikes. Luckily 750 carbs and air boxes are the easiest to deal with out there.

Remember the air box rubbers to the carbs have an orientation. You will see they have an angle to them.

Stock 7A carbs? I would say a good starting point is 115 mains, needle clip three from top (middle), 40 pilots and one turn out on the air screw. Like PeWe I'm in Europe and our petrol/benzin/gasoline/essence seems to be different to your North American blend.
71 or thereabouts 750 K1 - this one should have been put down

I replaced the rubbers.
I tried with the old hard rubbers and that was a battle.
The new rubber makes it relatively ::) easy

The head intake to carb rubber boots have angles .....

Here you go with the pic. Notice the top of the air box rubber is narrower than the bottom. Sort of like an accordion shape. Note I am talking about the area next to the airbox not by the clamp. If you have problems getting the airbox to line up with the mounting holes on the frame this may be the problem.

The airbox can be tricky to fit.
I had my carbs too horisontal. I saw many pics of bikes and notified they sit a little downwards.

I reoriented the inlet rubbers just a little and box went on much easier, screws fitted the frame vs box brackets.

I had not used the airbox since 1983 when bike it was used on got pods.
