Howdy CB550 rebuild.
« on: June 13, 2020, 08:44:57 PM »
Hi all, names Andrew. New to this forum but a member of a couple others so not new to forums.
Mechanic for 20 years, and got my engineering degree couple years back.

Have had many bikes over the years. Lots of Italian(mostly Aprilia). Couple Japanese and a previous cb500 that got stolen.

Apart from my current CB550 project and reason for joining I Also currently have a 2019 triumph speed twin.

Every bike iv had iv changed some thing I didn’t like, but there was always Still things I didn’t like but couldn’t change without major work or a long time of the road. It hard to find the balance between riding the bike and modifying.

So I decided to make one my way. Iv had the CB for a couple of years. Dragged it out of a barn for $500 bucks but the engine was blown. I sourced another engine and have been collecting other parts. Didn’t want to start with a decent bike as I intend to really modify it.

I hit a snag when I started to strip the paint of the frame. Both frame and swing arm was damaged and had been poorly repaired. It was a 1975 F
Got a new frame and swing which is a 1977k. I’m now modifying the frame for the second time So have lost some time.

The tank was actually off a 500T so had to swap it for a Early 550 tank.

Anyways that the story so far. I intended To take my time and get it right. A mix of classic looks on the outside and hide all the modern stuff.

Cheers

Andrew.
