Sissy bars? (And thank you for all your help!)
« on: June 11, 2020, 06:01:16 PM »
Good evening,

I just wanted to say thank you to all who have helped me out in the past. I previously had a leaky top, and thanks to @754, he pointed me towards my leaky tacho seal. Just recently had my CB750K towed due to an ignition switch failure, which was a issue I was able to narrow down thanks to some replies from a couple more experienced gentlemen. Thank you again
I spotted this sissy bar on eBay for a good price. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1978-honda-cb750-k-sissy-bar-luggage-rack/264760087915?hash=item3da4ee556b:g:tpUAAOSwWPle4ZzN&vxp=mtr The guy said it came off a 1978 Honda CB750K (just like mine). It doesn't came with any additional hardware (screws, bolts, brackets, etc) and he can't remember how it goes on since it has been a couple years. My question for you guys is, judging by the photos, will I have a hard time mounting this onto my bike? Can I mount it with easily attainable hardware? I have also just simply attached the photos.

Thank you!

It appears to be sort of universal, if the front mounts turn, which it looks like  it should mount up. Is yours a 77 or 78 ?
If it's not , you may need a bracket on the back bolts.

I have the exact same rack!  You will need a stand off tor one side where the arm attaches to the upper shock mount bolt.  You will also need to make a bracket that bolts through the tang hanging down in the center, just under the sissy bar.  this will clamp to the grab rail behind the seat. You could make one by cutting a section of steel pipe and welding a 1/2" threaded rod to it.  This then will clamp on the grab rail. You are lucky yours still has the two mounting brackets inside the side tubes.

When properly mounted it is a very strong rack.  Your's looks to be in very good shape!  I ended up blasting and powder coating mine because the chrome was ruined after being in a barn for over 30 years.

Great find!

It’s a 78!

Thank you for the insight! I have no idea what a stand off or tang is, unfortunately. Is it possible to get pictures of yours on your bike with the mounts/hardware? I could give you my email over PM, if there is one (so new to this forum).

I will try but I am away from home at the moment.  The "tang" is the downward mounted piece welded to the front cross bar.  The stand off mounts (bolts on to) the right upper shock mount stud and then has a threaded stud protruding that the right mounting bracket mounts to.
