Where to get rollers for discontinued bearing?
« on: June 11, 2020, 08:47:26 PM »
I've got the needle roller bearing off my CB500 main transmission shaft (part # 23931-323-004), and one of the rollers fell out and vanished into the Dimension of Lost Things.

Other than the missing roller, this bearing is fine. I don't need to replace the whole bearing, just the roller (but I'm perfectly willing to buy the whole bearing if that's the only way).

Problem is, this bearing is discontinued, and I can't find one anywhere. Anyone know where I can pick up an equivalent part?

Take the bearing to a bearing store and they will try to find one for you . They are in the business of finding bearings and are usually good at it.

Easiest way is a used one on ebay

These places are amazing, and surprisingly plentiful.

If you are hard pressed to find a replacement bearing and are desperate to get the one roller try using one of these:  https://www.amazon.com/Master-Magnetics-AM1PLC-Magnetic-Holder/dp/B00MOMIA9A?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_3

Tape some string to each end and start passing it over your floor (or ground) and see what sticks.  I made one when I was getting a lot of flat tires on my tractor.  Hung two in front that dragged over the ground.  Solved a lot of headaches from all the nails I was picking up in the tires.  Previous property owner was a slob and left nails and screws all over the property.  Filled a gallon paint bucket with all the trash it picked up!

If I understand this correctly, you mean an individual roller in the roller bearing?
I'm pretty sure they are sized at assembly so they match and finding another would be next to impossible.
I would think you'd need a new bearing assembly.
I'm wondering how the roller fell out.

They are loose rollers and fall out regularly, something you watch for on 500's
