Anybody know where I can find fork extensions for the 35mm cb forks?

I read somewhere that the cb750f forks are longer than the cb550f. Anybody verify this? If so, know how much longer?

 What length are you looking for? Get new extended, or cut down longer ones.  Often on here people are looking to trade good stockers for extended ones..

The slugs that I'd seen back in the day were essentially pieces of fork tube with a male end like the cap nut, which screwed into the top of the fork tube, and a female end then to receive the displaced cap nut. As long as the seam was between the 2 clamps, one might think them safe. Scared me from the get go. And either they were too expensive or to liable, I don't know, they never caught on and besides a few pair i saw 35+ years ago, have never seen or heard of them again.. Could be made by a machine shop I suppose.

+1 on contacting Frank.  His tubes are better than orignial, and he will supply whatever length you require.

I would bet the Cycle-X tubes come from Frank's truth be told. OCICBW

I think you'll find a set of tubes is more like $225+, unfortunately they don't list prices on their webpage, which is merely a tombstone add and contact page.

But that's what I paid for a set and that was many years ago. IIRC

PS: I see Cycle-X tubes at about $150 +/-. Mine may have been so expensive as they were K1 tubes which have a lot more machining on them,  So scratch the $225 for $150 +/-. At that price, extenders lose all attraction.

Just to add with the others about fork slugs ...

The problem with slugs is that while the lower portion of the steering stem has a firm grip on the fork tube, the top clamp had only a loose hold on the slug. This left the majority of the fork's length unsupported. When fork tube flex occurred, the threaded, unsupported joint between the slug and fork tube acted as a hinge and eventually broke.

Old school Harley Davidson owners were able to "get away" with using slugs on the original (Made-in-USA) wide glide fronts ends and ONLY if the slug was located between the top and bottom tree. Slugs that extended below the bottom tree often broke giving them a (rightfully so) unsafe reputation.

A good machine shop could cut those down, I think.

I just got a set from "Franks" and they were $240.00+-

Worked just perfectly, but they were of stock CB550 length-

 I probably have made them, and certainly can....just dont like promoting them.
 That said, anyone trying to make their own, of you cannot accurately cut metric threads on a lathe, and the machined portion for the O-ring, then its best left alone..

not sure of exact length yet. once frame is hardtailed, and neck is raked (around 40 degrees) I'll know more. I want to keep it level, or close. 21 inch front wheel and stock 18 inch in the rear.

I have a pair of fork pipes, they are loooooong.  I got them while back but could not find anybody to shorten them for me.  If interested, I can measure them for you.   Let me know.

I had as many others longer pipes for many years ago on my CB750K6. 6" longer than stock.

They were chromed all over making it possible to skip stock ears and gators. Stock pipes had rusty upper part
This brings oil seal replacement too.
Good time to service the forks, cleaning them and replace the plastic piston rings inside if CB550 are like the CB750.

This will not improve handling
