Is this correct?
« on: February 14, 2007, 06:23:47 PM »
I always see pictures of the side piece pictured below with a cut out for filling with oil. Is my 76 different from the ones I've seen or do I have a problem?

The above is what my bike has.

Below is what I always see.

I just want to make sure I have the correct pieces.

Also, my gas tank has a flush door with a key lock and the cap inside. Is this the factory tank or one that was just put on it?

I like the look of the other tanks better but if this is stock then I won't bother switching them out down the line.

Sam is correct - the side cover you have is correct for your bike and the 76F tank has the gas filler lid. You can check parts here -

You have a F model. The side covers you refer to are K model. hence the differences in side covers, gas tank, rear shocks, rear brake line, etc. that can be seen in your pictures. EXCEPT that seat! I don't think you'd have ANY problem getting rid of a good used 750F tank as there are just a few occasionally available. I just don't know if you could slap a K tank on. The 4 into 1 is also a trade mark of the F. Sounds like you need to buy another bike and sell the F.

Why should I get rid of it and buy another?

you have a SuperSport model CB750F.  The 'other' CB750's are CB750K bikes.

The SS or 'F' bike was only made for a few years.  Your tank and sidecovers are correct stock pieces for your bike.  The K bike sidecovers will not fit to my knowledge.  The tank might, but not likely a good fit with the stock F seat.

I don't really think anyone should get rid of a F. I bought mine in '75 and still ride it. If you really like the other pieces of a K then PLEASE don't butcher a F. F stands for FourEver. Get a K to go along with the F. How's that for a solution. I was basically saying that the easiest/best way to achieve what you want might be just to get what you want. The K models are much more pentiful and many parts are much easier to find. Many guys don't have the capital or space for more than 1 bike.

Ok, now it makes more sense. There are so many different names for the same (at least seemingly) bike. My noob head can't wrap it all up. So my 750F is the same as a 750 supersport?   Just like there are all these number designations, no clue what the correct one is for mine, if there is one.

I plan on keeping the bike stock for the most part, and any mods I do will be reversible. Lower it a little to suit my size better. New paint, because their spraybomb job sucks!  Tune/rebuild the carbs, replace the right switch setup (on-off-on switch is broken), new brake lines, pads, rotors, and MC rebuild if necessary.

Personally, I like the ability to check the oil w/out removing body panels. Not an option on those "late model bikes" ::)

starion88esir - The sohc CB750F Supersport family was introduced in 1975. The F1 followed in 1976, F2 in 1977 and the F3 in 1978. A 1976 F1 Supersport would have an engine number starting with 251xxxx and the ID plate riveted to the steering tube would show a frame number of 200xxxx and a build date of Mar75-Nov76.

Sam.

In the oil tank of course. It's located in the same place. Why check the oil, just change it. F's don't use oil, they just run like a scalded ass monkey!

Starion,

Your 1976 bike is a F1 in US standards. My 75 is a F aka F0 or if you look in Honda's microfiche it is a K0 Super Sport.  These bad ass boys are all Super Sports as compared to K's just plain K's.
