Starting off
« on: June 21, 2020, 12:43:35 am »
Good morning all, I've been given a 400f to get back on the road, I've noticed that when pulling off I need to rev the bike quite hard and ride the clutch a little or the engine bogs down a little. Otherwise it rides well and Shifts as normal once moving. Is this nature of the beast or does something need adjusting or changing? I'm used to more modern bikes which will pull off at next to no throttle

I would say to start, check your spark plugs, timing , timing advance, and air cleaner. Any of those out of whack may allow it to "sound" good but be under powered.

I'll have a look at the timing. Can that be done by a novice with the manual easily?

Full tune up, even if just a verification of proper adjustment without changing any parts.

You can do it with a good manual in hand. Beware of aftermarket service manuals and start threads here if questions arise.

I tried using this method today but my test lamp didn't light up at any stage, any ideas why? I tested the lamp on the battery and it lit up so no faulty lamp
