Dammit guys, you are gonna force me to run out and get a board together and shove the little kids aside and carve a few runs at the local skatepark.  :D

I saw an old Roskopp design redone with simpsons graphics at the mall the other day and started to get the same tingly feeling all over.  8)

LOL! I've been thinking along the same lines, Dukie. The Santa Cruz deck with the Sims bowl riders in the pics from '78 is just gathering dust. Of course, I had some second thoughts after seeing moto's bruise! :o

Just strap some hip pads on yer fanny if you are worried about a pointer, I know back in the day they made shorts with pads built in just for that purpose.

There is a group of guys I used to ride with in Nashville that call themselves Team Geritol.  A few of them wore mountain bike/bmx shorts with pads on the hips and thighs.  They have a similar product for snowboarding as well.

Pad up and ride dudes!  There are concrete parks coast to coast and border to border nowadays!  When I was a kid we were stoked to find scrap plywood and a drainage ditch, and drooled over the parks we saw in the skatermags (like Kona).

I have a whole posse of friends who skate in Spokane Wa...they are the ones that got me into
Vintage bikes.
I live in Illinois.
My friend just bought a 1975 CB200, his brother has a CB550 and a few other bikes. I just bought a 1977 CB750.
I've been day dreaming about taking a ride to the new concrete park on my 750. I just need my liscense.

We film whenever we get the chance.

Man, kids have it easy with all the skateparks around these days. I remember when we took the time to build a sweet 10 foot tall 24 foot wide halfpipe in the woods in our subdivision and some burnouts tore it down in the middle of the night. Man we were pissed. No skateparks at all in the STL and they are all over the damn place now, kids have it easy these days.

Yup, I agree. Kids do have it way too easy these days.
Hey Nikki, I'm sure you know this already, but three of those boards on your wall are worth a pretty penny. Great pics by the way. A lot of nice looking tranny.
As I was gowing up there was no ramps in my area. So we just skated the streets, and made our own stuff.
Ah the good ol' days.

Never had a nice store bought board, the first one I made from my sisters toy ironing board and her steel wheel street skates. My big brother is still proud of me for that one. It went pretty good but was way loud. I was probably the first skateboarder around here banned from a private driveway and a grocery store parking lot.

You damn kids with your flash dancing and hop rap!  Get off my lawn! ;)

When concrete parks started popping up everywhere I really got back into skating.
As a kid tetanus shots were required to skate the janky stuff we used to build.  This old drainage ditch in Knoxville was a hot spot for years.  It is covered over by the interstate now, but K-vegas has a sweet concrete park so who's complaining?

Pics of my board. Santa Cruz deck that I bought in '78 in SLO, Sim's Pure Juice "Bowl Riders", and Bennett Pro trucks, that I bought a couple of years before that in SM. We skated in cement culverts back then! :o
Chris, I was mistaken about the trucks. ;)

Glad to see a lot of skaters. Being much younger than most of the members here, I grew up street skating. I've noticed a lot of motorcyclists were skateboarders. I never been able to put my finger on why. The same with motorcyclists and pilots. That is another common one I see. Anyone care to take a shot at it?

I'm sad, I don't think I have any photos of me skating.

Skated for Alva and Vans in the '80s and '90s. Still skate -- pools when I go back to AZ but mostly parks here in CDMX. Also write and take photos for Thrasher, since 1994. I'm the longest-serving photog/writer at the mag.
