CB550 died on the way to work/electrical issues
« on: June 30, 2020, 01:06:44 AM »
Luckily I was on a side street and hadn't made it to the highway yet. Bike was running like normal (it's all original, no mods) and it just stopped running. No lights, horn, nothing. The battery is charged and the connections are good. I haven't had time to dive into it yet, and being a lifetime motocrosser and this is my 1st street bike I'm terrible with electrics anyway. Any guidance on where to look first would be greatly appreciated.

Checked the inline fuse beneath the left cover?

Does that make it a 550 K0?

It was the fuse! Thank you, dazemc. There were still all 3 original spare fuses inside the rubber cover. Could've saved myself a lot of hassle with that knowledge. Lesson learned.

To do that i would suggest you buy the blade fuse conversion from Hondaman on here as the old fuse box will keep giving you trouble. This is what i was asking details for to find out which fusebox you have. When asking a question remember we cant see your bike so you need to say EXACTLY what it is in the question

Sorry again, I thought CB550 in the title was sufficient. Changed my profile pic for future reference.

There are many sub models of most Hondas and there can be subtle or majour differences between them.

I get it, but obviously it was sufficient to get the right answer.

Do yourself a favor. Compare engine- and framenumber of yours with those listed in the first few pages of the various CB550 Parts Lists. They are all here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/parts-list/parts-list-cb550 You only have to do this once. For the rest of your life you will know what exact model you have, so what you can expect. If you specify, also others here know, which makes it easier to give precise answers. Carb numbers and color codes are also there. Realise that wire diagrams may differ for various markets. Therefore you need the 'area code' that you will also find in those pages.

Yeah... than I'd communicate it, 'it's a 74' means nothing to us. Even better: have it in your signature like below.

Yeah, the title of the thread had the model in it and the first person to answer nailed it. And my quote was "sorry, it's a 74." See the difference? Don't like my posts, don't read them.

+1 on Hondaman fuse box/plug and play. It was a lifesaver for me as getting replacement original fuses is near impossible

Do you, newcomer with only 53 posts, have any idea how often Bryan (9999 posts!) had to ask WHAT BIKE?!!! for he could even begin offering his valuable help? If you get snotty and perhaps don't like our manners, don't stay here and move to another forum and see if you will receive the help you can get here.
Bryan, I'd like to be the first to congratulate you with your 10.000th post!

I've had it with you, you old fart. I apologized TWICE already, and thanked the guy who gave me the correct answer without even knowing my bike was Flake Sunrise Orange. So do me a favor and go bother someone else because I didn't do anything wrong except apparently get your panties in a bunch because you've got nothing better to do than post here and argue with people. The number of posts I have is irrelevant, I've been reading this forum for years, long before I got the bike. Get lost.
