Insuring a custom cafe build in Ontario
« on: June 26, 2020, 06:12:26 am »
Hi All, I'm just finished my CB750K 1978 custom brat build. I have made modifications to the frame, everything is done well/safely, the bike looks and runs great. Now it's time to insure the bike, and I have been hitting a real wall when trying to find an insurance company that will insure it. I have been told my Dalton Timmis that they will only insure "custom motorcycles that use a kit frame. I was wondering if anyone has had luck with having a cafe racer with custom mods to the frame insured?

Thanks for your help.
Steve

Steve...... I’ve had the same issue,in Ontario. The Insurance companies seem to be totally in charge, doing whatever they want. My advice: still got the Honda frame and vin number on your bike? Quote the number and don’t tell them anything else. Value the motorcycle under $3,000 so they don’t ask for an appraisal. Good luck.

Follow Benelli SEI’s advice.
Hopefully you still have the stock VIN on the frame. Insure it as a 1978 CB750, don’t ask about Vintage insurance as they will request an appraisal.
You won’t be able to get full coverage (theft etc) without an appraisal, so don’t go that route.
