CB750 K0 seat foam replacement
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:20:27 AM »
Mine is pretty smushed down and I'd like to re-do it and maybe get a new cover as well. There is a seller on ebay uk that sells brand new foam, but with shipping, we're looking at $150. Should a good local upholstery shop be able to adequately reproduce this? Any sharing of experiences with this and/or cover replacement would be awesome.

I bought a seat cover from this seller on Ebay for my 550K.   I think they have them for the 750 as well.

It came with pretty good instructions on how to repair the foam and install.  I took it to a local car upholstery shop and had it installed for $80 rather than do it myself, so it was still about $160 total.  I can send you the instructions if you'd like to see them.  If I were you I'd talk to a local shop first.  I'm sure they could probably redo the foam.

Zoomob,  Perhaps with the # of "Restorations" etc, I have experianced  I 'could" attempt to pass myself off as "at least "knowledgeable". But I won't... Instead, I offer this. Seat foams differ in "density" from year to year and manufacturer  to man... model to model etc.... some pads are/were of single construction, others were either "holed" or had "inserts" of different density. If i had a "good"  "non ducktail" seat, w/approprioate padding"  I see no prob w/ "spliciing " in padding to fit  tail.  on the other hand, if your pad is "shot' the odds of a "uphoulstry shop " having a "foam" which even cut to fit would be acceptible is "doubtful:, luck G

I did the same thing as tree. I bought a seat cover (really nice BTW) from EBAY and took it and the pan to an upholstery shop. I got to pick out the foam density. I went with as dense as possible. Came back in two days and it looked like a brand new OEM seat. Well worth it, one of the few service things on this bike that was. Everything else I do myself.

That's an awesome price, I got a Yamiya red foam for my sandcast's seat. About $200 from an ebay seller, but not on ebay.  I put the original cover back on it. That was a couple years ago and it's still nice. I used the big paper clip style clamps to hold the cover until I got it stretched back over the original pointy things. Don't straighten them more than is needed and maybe you will get as lucky as I did.

The one I have to do next is a new cover on an old foam. I hope it goes as well.

The pan I had was pretty rusty and quite a few pointy tabs were unusable. I ended up sandblasting/painting the pan and the riveting these upholstery tack strips in. They work really well.

A few years ago, I bought a cover from a vendor on EBay, for a K0. He listed as “BobtheSeat”. He’s on EBay.UK. I sent him a repaired, painted pan, along with the rubber bump piece that goes in the tail. He provided the correct foam and recovered the seat beautifully. Cost me a bit of postage, but his shop rate was incredibly reasonable. Not sure if he still does it, but true value!

My Z1 experience, if bike sits all is well, if ridden much foam will compress
