Accell Coils cb750k4
« on: June 10, 2005, 07:30:35 AM »
I just put a set of Accell Supercoils in my bike. I was told that they would work with my points setup. All wired right, no shorts or grounding. Wires go to the right 1/4 2/3
Bike runs well with the stock coils...
The new coils cause.... Extremely hot.. arcing accross the point... rough like the timing order is out (but it isn't) I've used a timing light to check. Backfiring and flames (yikes)
Help
Can this be just too much coil for the bike? Thanks

if they are 3 ohm coils, and i would think they are, they will burn up points faster than the oe coils.

Accell coils in 3 ohm variety nearly doubles the current passing though the points.  It also taxes the condenser and they may breakdown and lose their function.

If you replace the points and condensers with new it may well run okay again.  For awhile, anyway.   You'll be replacing those much more frequently than with the stock coils.

Advice:
It you want to keep the coils, then replace the points with something like a Dyna ignition.  The switches in these can take the extra current.

I took them off. The bike is a great runner without. Just wanting a bit more bolton. Pure laziness :) Thanks for the help.
