Will slip on mufflers give me trouble?
« on: July 04, 2020, 10:50:09 AM »
I ordered a pair of Dunstall short replica mufflers for my 1982 CB 650 a few days ago. Am I going to have problems with engine performance when I replace the two stock mufflers with these? I will keep the 2-2 set up, just replace the mufflers with these:

You might. You will have to have a look at the color of your plugs after a putting on some miles, perhaps starting with new plugs is a good idea. Is your bike running well? You can verify float height with clear tube before beginning.

1/4 turn at a time on your air screws is a good start once you've seen the color that new plugs show.

Thanks for your answers!

I have only driven the bike for one short ride after putting new spark plugs in. It has very few miles on it and seems to run very well. I'll keep my fingers crossed when I replace the mufflers and pay attention to how it runs and take a look at the spark plugs frequently until I am sure the effect my change made.

There is a good chance the bike will run the same, or very nearly the same as it did with the stock mufflers.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I hope you are right. I will report in a few weeks.
