Honda CB400F2 circa 1978 - wiring question ?
« on: August 06, 2020, 11:58:34 AM »
Before I strip down my recently purchased Honda CB400F2 I intend to get the engine running as I bought it with a noisy cam chain but the engine hasn't been run for 10-12 years so feel I should at least try to get it running first to hear if there are any other issues.

It's obvious that the bike has been stripped down at some time then rebuilt with quite a few new parts but then the owner has run out of enthusiasm.

The wiring loom has clearly been put back in haste with quite a few items not reconnected. I will probably fit a new loom when I do the full rebuild.

My question concerns a set of 4 wires that spur from the main loom on the left of the bike near the centre of the engine - two only had wires to them the Solid Blue & Solid Yellow were connected to the coil. The remaining 2 connectors are Solid Black & Green with a Yellow trace. Can someone advise me what they should be connected to or point me in the right direction as wiring diagrams do not seem to show detailed connections just the wiring grid maps that are hard to understand?

Rear brake light switch is where they go.
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

See attached WD.

It shows the connections pretty well; the lengths of the wires are not to scale, but the connections are where they are.
