This is the stuff I'm talking about.

https://smile.amazon.com/XHF2018-Organizer-Polyethylene-%EF%BC%88Black%EF%BC%89-4MM-Length20M/dp/B07JNRL843/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=wire+wrap&qid=1594575114&sr=8-6

Seems like it would be easier to make a custom harness with this since you can modify, shorten or lengthen any wire as you work. It obviously has no moisture protection but that shouldn't be a problem for a garage kept bike. Does anyone have any experience, good, bad or otherwise?

I've used it in the past at work making cables, I don't recommend it for use in a vehicle since vibration seems to tighten the coil which then puts pressure on the insulation and can lead to shorts.

I would recommend braided nylon cable sleeving instead, it comes in a variety of widths and colors.

Braided nylon is the way to go. The problem I had is running several cables any amount of distance is almost undoable. I tried for a good 40 min and didn't manage to get two cables through. Get this split weave loom instead. Same thing but it opens up to insert your cables and winds back to enclose them.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely be using a braided option.

To run multiple cables through braided nylon, simply tape the ends together and use a single piece of wire or wooden dowel as a leader to snake them through

Use a lighter to melt the ends of the braid to keep it from unraveling.

I used split loom on mine, it does the job but you can see the loom in a few spots and I think it looks tacky as heck. Takes away from the look of the bike and I regret it a little.
In hindsight I think something more stylish like nylon would have been great, but it's a bit late for that.

As I typed this I looked that that loom from revival, damn I like that. That would be perfect to hide my atrocities lol

That is a split loom. What did you use? Why does it look tacky?

I took it he used this:

I've used it before too, there is no sense of pride for a job well done after using this stuff.

$85 seems pretty high for that kit, but it is one stop shopping.

I see. That's fine for POS car rewire but not your pride and joy. Revival has nice stuff but they charge a lot and they charge a lot for shipping. If you order from them bulk up as you would with CMSNL!

The kit is nice if you plan on doing more motorcycles. I have the heat shrink variety pack and never use but one or two sizes. Definitely get the loom and if you haven't ordered from Vintage Connections, do so and pick up heat shrink and PVC from there. Much better pricing and shipping.

Thanks for all the good info!

My '75 Cb750F is missing both side covers. I don't mind the look of the oil side without a cover, but I need to clean up the electronics side. Thinking of getting modern, smaller units to replace everything and making a tidy sheet metal cover. (I guess I need to just get my build thread started.)

+1 on the woven split loom. Love working with it and it looks great. Spiral wrap or corrugated split loom are not great for long lasting, good looking looks.

There's also a tool that you snap around the cable bundle and zip it through the loom. Saves some time and headache, but not strictly necessary.

There may be other places to get it from, but Revival definitely knows what's up.
