Rear hub rubbers
« on: July 13, 2020, 10:11:47 AM »
When I opened the rear wheel hub on my K2 750, this is what the rubber parts looked like. I am not familiar with this part of the bike. Do these look serviceable or do I need to replace. It seems all the pieces are there. The bike has 27K miles on the clock

Those are dampers and it's purpose is to smoothen out the power transfer from the drivetrain to the wheel.

I think the cracks in the rubber says it's time to replace, especially since you already have it apart.

when you put the sprocket carrier back into the hubs there any slop or backwards/forwards movement ? if so then attention is needed

the obvious fix is to replace the rubbers in the hub, the other way is to fill the gaps caused by the compressed rubbers and this can be done by putting slices of bicycle inner tube around the metal 'posts' on the back of the sprocket carrier

i discovered this bodge the other day while investigating the cause of looseness in the back wheel/sprocket carrier on the zzr, as above the rubbers can be replaced but they wear out really quickly so someone discovered this repair method, apparently it lasts longer than simply replacing the worn out bits ( and is a sh!tload cheaper too)
i blame Terry

In for a penny, in for a pound. Its just money anyway. I found new dampers at VintageCB750.com

My vote is to replace them while you're in there since they are available new and your's are cracked. Not a major expense. If they broke would it throw/break/jam the chain and what would that result be?
