When did you last ride your SOHC?!
« on: July 14, 2020, 04:33:37 PM »
Ok, here's a topic I don't think I've seen:

When did you last ride your SOHC?!

I'll start, I last rode my K4 "Big Bang" bike on Thurs, July 2nd. Was a short ride after work, only about 35 miles but a good one.

I try to ride one on my bikes at least once a week.  Last Friday I rode my H1 500, it's a smoker upon start up but a screamer after that!

Unfortunately it's been over a month since my 750 or my wife's 350 have been on the road. Been busy remodeling our washroom so any free time I have has been spent on it rather than riding. We did take the Goldwing out on a week long road trip a couple weeks ago ..... it's technically a SOHC right? :)

I rode mine to work all last week! This week it is raining every day so far. :(
I make an Ignition for that Kawi, if the points get hard to find. It will make them last for many, many years. ;)
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

Been a long while since I've seen a H1 500 with original pipes! I took my first motorcycle license test on one!

The '74 H1 does not have points, Mark.  I believe the '72 did, you may want to market them on the Kawi forum.

Some days it's like some like owning them and talking about them...more than riding them..

I've been resurrecting a 750 a week lately during the pandemic. A lot of them I hardly ever rode so now I'm getting out all the time on a new machine ! Some of these have been sitting way too long. Luckily not seeing to much too buy out there anymore that's affordable in original paint so fix up what I got. I'll put together a gang shot sometime of what I have been doing to stay out of trouble.

It's been too long Steve (2014) so I've been ordering a few parts and got the carbs on the bench. I have to set it up for 7000 ft. elevation since I moved the hell out of crazy Calif. Took my son's Harley out a few back and the bug bit me to get the 750 going.

Bought a new place here in CDMX. After months of bureaucracy and red tape, it became official a couple weeks ago. Yesterday was moving day, and I rode my 350F from my old place to my new place to meet the movers after the van was packed.

Isn't Mexico City at 7000ft. too?

I rode my K3 around the block a few times in 2005 before I tore it down and turned it into a long term project. I'm hoping to have my K8 on the road before the season ends.

Good thread idea Stev-O

Yep and yep.

I rejetted last time I did the carbs. It runs well, but smokes a little -- #3 plug gets a little oily and compression test leads me to believe its rings. I've been lagging on getting it done since I really only ride once a week or so, but I'm gonna start riding it to work since I'm much closer now -- when and if my work opens back up.

It seems that since around 10 or so years ago these bikes are the talk of the town anywhere you go. I recall going to the the local bar and most people would stop to look at my 750 more than any other bike around it. One day in particular was kinda funny. There were like 5 or 6 Harleys parked around my bike and my bike was the only one there with a kick starter and spoked wheels.

Couple of months ago had an hour or so ride on the cb.  Big day, also rode the LC, slabby and r1 that day for an hour or so each.

The R1 and slabby near killed me. Bloody uncomfortable things. Also rode the H1 for 15 minutes a few weeks ago. Waiting on the fuel tap for it.
Its been sitting at New York airport since the 4th of july. :-\

and some of the 1971 H1A's also have points...

I have promoted Mark's ignition on the Kawasaki Triples Owners Group forum (my H1A has the very first ignition he made for the triples), however, there were a few naysayers. It's quite amusing really, because I'm pretty sure a few forum members quietly bought his ignition without saying anything. It reminds me of when someone mentioned the Cruzinimage pistons a couple of years ago. Those same naysayers bagged them something rotten, but some members quietly bought the "cheap Chinese crap" pistons, installed them, and found they were actually pretty good. The internet, isn't it fun?!
