You know, right off, I can't think of one who has, but if you'll check back with a fellow named paulages threads, you'll find info on building a motor using 650 parts and cb650 (Terry) knows quite abit about them also. I know there are others, I just can't think right now. I gotta catch you later on.

The '79 650's frame is pretty close to a 550's, since thats before the 650's got the dropped seat. The engine looks a bit different, but can be swapped into a 550 using the stock mounts. For the most part I don't think you'd have any trouble making it look like any of the 550 cafe bikes, or 750's for that matter, so you could easily get ideas from any of those examples...

here's a 550 with a 650 front end.

i toyed with the idea of using a 650 frame i have at the shop, with 750ss wheels & forks, and a 550 engine, but it's way on the back burner. i really love the drop-out frame rail on the 650 for removing the engine. brilliant! why didn't they do that sooner???

I initially was going to cafe my '79, but I've seen a several 550s and 750s that are more resto-modded bikes that look fantastic.  Currently, mine has clubman bars, but I have a set of euro bars to throw on.  Maybe later I'll cafe it, but for now, it's a resto-mod.
