Bush find and 69-70 production numbers
« on: July 25, 2020, 08:30:22 AM »
A friend of a friend invited us up to his property last week to give us 2 Cb750's. We didn't know what to expect, turns out one was a Nov. 69 1013xxxx with original engine. I'm sure most non CB750 lovers would have let it rot where it lay as you can see in the pic. We of course dragged it out the bush road as the rear was locked up solid.
This led me to looking up production numbers of the 69-70 model years and I am once again confused by the math. Since the frame numbers are contiguous through to 1971, the 69 sand cast at 7414 and 70 years at 53,400 (according to this forum) add up to 60,814 which does not make sense. From frame # 7414 to the beginning of the K1 is only 37,392 frames. I can understand more engines (unstamped) were manufactured than frames but the math doesn't work. Maybe someone here can explain.

7000 plus 37000.. roughly adds up to total bikes made by end of 70 production. I have one in the last 200 of the K0.

All engines built were stamped only cases supplied as spares were not

37,392 + 7414 = 44,806, that's still 8,594 under the 53,400 listed as manufactured. Where are those missing bikes :o
Noted , cases not engines.

Frame#
KO CB750-1000001 to CB750-1044649
K1 CB750-1044650 to CB750-1121650
These numbers are accurate for usa, there are rumors a few more  KO were built for non usa markets, never seen one, have my doubts, makes supplying parts harder.

Are these not worldwide production? The K1 numbers jive with 77,000, but the KO is often cited as 53,400 total.

I am now realizing that number from SOHC Owners is from left field. Still there doesn't seem to be another source for numbers other than counting frame numbers if in fact they are contiguous.

Not exactly left field.  The numbers were added fairly recently to the CB750K page and match up with the numbers shown on wikipedia.  Beyond that, I do not know the source.  If someone comes across a verifiable source for production and sales numbers, let me know.

Frame#
KO CB750-1000001 to CB750-1044649
K1 CB750-1044650 to CB750-1121650
These numbers are correct, listed in original k0,k1,k2 parts manual.
I have seen five bikes, CB750-1044650 to CB750-1045000, all K1

Yes , I went by the numbers in the green parts books.. it clearly shows end of the K0 and start of K1.
Do you have a side view of the bike want to see the fork lowers. Sometimes they get changed. Also caliperwas silver , could have been painted or switched.
 Is chainguard plastic?

The forks are tweaked but are not original, also the chain guard was not original. I had one but sold it last year :o
