74' CB550 Petcock leaks from dial
« on: July 31, 2020, 09:17:24 AM »
I have the bowl type with the 4 holds and the spring washer, and I am at my wits end trying to get it to stop leaking. After a thorough douse of carb cleaner, then a couple passes with scotchbrite, and replacing the o-rings/gasket with new ones (the tank to petcock, the nylon washers, the float bowl)...it still leaks badly from the bottom of the dial/knob. Is my petcock fubar'd?

At this point I'm assuming my only route is to replace it with a reproduction.

It's worth having a look at the petcock, sometimes they corrode. I've had luck bending the spring washer out a little -- seems like they flatten over time. And I put a tiny amount of grease on the outer side of the seal with holes in it so it moves easier.
