when I had to leave my dirt bike in camp for the necessary beer run, I would put a Cresent wrench through the spokes and sprocket. Slide the handle through the spokes closest to the hub and put a standard master lock in the hole in the handle.

Anything you do will only keep an honest person honest. If they want it bad enough they will get it, sad fact about society.

I have to respectfully disagree. An honest man is not going to take your side covers or your bike, even if you left it unlocked with the key in the ignition. Only a thief will steal your stuff.

GPS device on bike so you can get alarm when it moves and see where it goes.

Electrical chock device, explosives, camera connected to smart phone....

A good looking CB and other bikes are not possible to park for long, especially not over the night. People might know the parts cost and how easy it is to sell. Lots of customers via eBay.

You need a safe garage or store the bike inside your home.

Too many deranged people out there today destroying others property by pure envy covered up by something politically they accuse orthers for.

Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as anti-theft on the street. If someone wants to steal the bike, they will. At best we can deter them.

Whilst living in South America I would see small trucks/vans pull up beside locked motorcycles, usually expensive sports bikes, and 3 guys would just pick it up, load it in, and then drive off.

I plan on parking mine in a storage unit. They're insured, secure, have key-coded gates and lots of cameras.

I once had a problem when I lived in an apartment complex: people would sit on the bike, try to roll it away, etc. Installing a high-voltage, low-current transformer (neon sign igniter) with one lead connected to the handlebars and one to the engine would really get their attention when they attempted to sit on it and pretend to ride it. But, after shocking a poor dog who decided to pee on the front wheel one night, I had to remove that...I like dogs...

........the poor dog would never pee on a motorcycle ever again.

I went ahead and ordered the alarm with microwave sensor, I am going to set up a camera and watch to see if it would detect and alarm the neighbor's cat.

On a related but possibly apocryphal story that went round years ago...

There was this Harley rider who was pissed off with folk sitting on, fiddling with, stealing etc his bike
He threaded a hole into one of the of corners of one of his split fuel tanks, this hole was a plug thread, he then put a spark plug in the hole where it lived happily in a fog of petrol fumes
whenever he got off the bike he'd take one lkyg lead off the engine and attach it to the tank plug
Sure enough someone comes along , kicks the engine over and disappears in a ball of flame
The story goes the thief was killed and the owner was charged with murder and setting a mantrap
Or so the story goes....

Well i did see sombody come back to his bike where there was a heavy chain holding front wheel to a lampost to discover he only had forks and wheel left.

Also did an insurance job on a CB250RS that was very nearly a write of because sombody pinched the complete headlamp by undoing the mounting bolts and cutting every wire into it

yep. When i had my electra glide, and harleys were on a wanted list, I was having a conversation about theft and said my bike would be hard to steal because it's so heavy. The friend just laughed and said four guys , two poles through the spokes and a pickup truck equals one stolen bike....sobering.

seen a few people theow up whilst riding....one was the result of a traditional latvian breakfast ( half a bottle of vodka ), he didn't even slow down, just loosened his full face helmet, turned his head left and let fly, the guy riding behind was less than impressed

Look at it this way, if they steal my brand new Yamiya side covers with emblems, it will be $500 loss which is my deductible.  :'(

With a $70 alarm system, I get a 10% discount on my insurance which and if the alarm works or is at least 50% effective, I think I am already winning.

I never get off the bike. If I am out to ride I ride and don't stop. If I am going to the restaurant or store I take the car. It only takes a second for someone to take both KO side covers and list them for sale.

We were in the parking lot at the louisville flat track races in the 70's, my brother was fiddling with his fork lock. I asked are you serious? In this sea of quality and custom bikes you think a thief is going to want yours?

I have a Colt with 6in barrel and don't find it to be too much and I enjoy shooting it at distance and it amazes me how accurate it and I can be at distance with it. They really are amazing handguns. It is far easier for me to use it and produce tight groupings than with any Glock or similar 9mm. Something about the weight of it helps me hold it steady and the trigger action is like butter.
