if there is a "worst" category... garth brooks

Wrong... the worst concert ever has to be the American Idol turd of a show that my wife dragged me to. Delayed 45 minutes, then crap performances. UGH. I only went because I love my wife and she really wanted to go.

Jeff

Worst concert... oh, it pains me to tell this.  I was in high school, I was dating this chick (getting laid) and she and I, and some friends went to see Vanilla Ice in concert.   It was horrible from start to finish.  I would rather staple my sack to my leg than do something like that again.  Yuck!

Sparty

I can only admit this in an anonymous forum ;)  My worst was ELO.  I still ask myself why I went.  Unlike Jeff and Sparty, I have no excuse.

ELO? Really? I like their music but never seen them in concert. My worst was Aerosmith at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. I don't hate them but I'm not a fan either. That concert sucked though. My wife was a big fan at the time and after 2-3 songs she said "I'm ready to go when you are." So we left. The sound was so bad you could barely tell what songs they were playing.

Best? Rush at Oakland Colosseum. Very clean sound. (I am biased though. ;D )
Close second: Day on the Green, Oakland 1991 (?) Soundgarden, Faith No More, Queensryche, Metallica. Metallica took too long to get on stage and the fans started ripping up the sod on the field and throwing it. It looked like green popcorn! ;D

Jane's Addiction, Memorial Hall in KC
Jack Johnson at the Starlight summer 05 in KC
The Stones here in Wichita this last summer
Split Lip Rayfield this fall at the Cotillion here in Wichita. If you've never heard of them, they are outstanding. Kind of a punk bluegrass style.

A bit off the mainstream here. I lived in New Zealand until 7 years ago and opportunities were very limited.
The best was Simon and Garfunkel at Athletic Park, Wellington in 1984.
Second best was Don MacLean in our local Art Deco theatre sometime in the late 80s. He was great and carried the whole show on his own - no support acts, no back up musicians: just him, his guitar and a bar stool. We saw him again a couple of years ago and he has really lost the plot. His voice has gone, he had a full backing band - only a shadow of the old Don.

I had front row seats to see Jimi Hendrix in Chicago AND I got to shake his hand!  Saw Jefferson Airplane at a little club where they were the "surprise" band.... Grace Slick, Jorma... they were Gods and they were real... it was incredible!  Saw Cream at the Chicago Stadium... it was the last concert held there because the place was condemned.... Ginger Baker did a 1/2 hour drum solo.

Sold a copy of the Chicago "Seed" underground newspaper to Joe Cocker.... I was way too young to be hanging around Chicago's Old Town and my mother would've killed me.... I was, unfortunately, too young to get into the club where he was playing, too.

Saw Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult.... Never got to see the Beatles... too young to stand in line for tickets.  Got to see Kiss play a song in a local club where they stopped by to see a band that impersonated them.  Saw Jefferson Airplane again when they played a free concert in Grant Park.... Frisbees, bubbles and the unmistakable aroma of pot everywhere.

Wow, I'll have to think about it.... went to some other concerts... can't remember.

Went to see Steve Vai at the Barrymore in Madison.........first date with my now husband......it was my birthday gift to him.

Cheap Trick used to perform at suburban Chicago clubs many moons ago.... spent time at Denny's eating breakfast with them more than once after a show.  They were nice guys; a whole group of us would go out and eat breakfast at 4:00 a.m. and then head home to shower and get on the el train to the city to go to work.  Doubt I could manage to do that very often anymore, but still love to dance!

My daughter has tickets to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Iowa.... and I am jealous!!!!

Iron Maiden, 1983, Piece of Mind tour in Winnipeg MB.  My first concert, and first whiff of a joint (second hand smoke mind you!).

Another good one was Allman Bros w/Blues Traveller in Pheonix AZ, July, 1992.  Enjoyed that a lot and got my first tattoo in Pheonix the next day.

Billy Bragg put on a good show some time ago in Toronto in a very small venue, and I was lucky enough to see the Tragically Hip play in Winnipeg WAY back in the early days, long before they became the Canadian icons they are now.

Hi Scunny
We lived along way from the main centres where the performances were held. It wound up being a very expensive exercise.

For me the best had to be seeing Queen at Knebworth (with Status Quo), about 1986, other memorable ones: the Mandela concert at Wembley was pretty awesome, including Dire Straits with Eric Clapton guesting, Fleetwood Mac at the NEC, Brian Adams and ZZ Top (god that was LOUD) at Milton Keynes, Cher at the NEC (had my big binoculars out for that one), Eric Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall, Heart at the NEC.

Cheers

Peter,

I am getting close to the half century mark... No Throbbing Gristle was a Industrial Punk band that was very underground. They used a lot of non-standard instruments like hitting a bed spring with hammers. So I would be very interested to know if any forum member has ever heard of them?
