Olympia Wa Questions
« on: August 09, 2020, 08:44:28 AM »
I would like to get my '78 CB750K tuned up.  I can do the valves, but it needs carb synch and idle air adjust.  Synching requires the right tool and idle air adjust is fairly delicate.  I may be capable of performing the latter, but do not have tools for synching.  I seek your advice.  Who, in my area (Olympia WA) might be able to synch these carbs for me?  I notice the synching tools are fairly inexpensive, so I wonder about just getting the tool and doing this myself.  How hard is it?  Will the tool kit need any special fitting(s) in order to attach to the carbs?

I also should replace the chain on this motorcycle.  4into1.com is out of stock, it seems.  Where might you guys go for chains and sprockets?  Can I just use any sprockets with the correct number of teeth (15 and 41 IIRC)?  Or will sprockets also differ in other ways besides tooth count?  Some folks advise getting rid of the 630 chain in favor of the 530.  Certainly the 530 chain is strong enough but could there be any problems in switching?

1. Sync tool will cost less than the labor cost of having the sync done professionally. It is not hard.

2. Amazon and ebay have kits to replace all 3 items at once. Check tension every 50 miles for the first 200 miles after you install

Second that.

The Morgan Carbtune tool has been great for me, and a lot of other people here like it too. No liquid and easy to use, store, and transport if need be. I had a mecury set before that that I liked but I had to be careful. I am not a fan of the Motion Pro gauges, I find they get bubbles and inaccurate readings, although others say they like them. For the money, I'd get the Morgan.

Don't know if you got this done yet but I'm about an hour away from you and I can sync up your carbs.  If you're in Auburn like your profile says then I am 20 minutes away.
