+1......vaccine reported available in russia.....

In touting the new drug, Putin insisted it had passed “all needed checks” despite the fact it hasn’t undergone phase 3 trials.  The data from the phase 1 and phase 2 trials has not been published either.  I think I might wait awhile on this one..... unless you want to roll the dice with Vlad. ;D

They will probably send a modified version to the U.S. (upon request $$$) that will have the added benefit of making the recipient sterile...  :o

A friend and I went to a VFW meeting to discuss not running their annual car show, we donated the money they would have made instead. They were having a no mask meeting but did distance from each other. We have common friends that went to Sturgis that we both need to do business with. We might wait a couple weeks.

just a report...definitely not a recommendation......I wouldn't take anything from russia.......and I'm not that worried about getting the virus.

If a bunch of people don't catch it at Sturgis it says something. Not sure what. I've seen reports of what bars people have been exposed at. No way to find those exposed.

It was entirely predictable (and predicted) that someone was going to have C19 and that it was going to spread there. The extent is what we don't know, and it'll be hard to tell as people all go back home and potentially spread it there. It is predominantly the "no mask" crowd, and they seem to be the people most likely to not cooperate with contact tracing. What a mess. I hope people the best, and I feelsorry for the few thousand people who make Sturgis their home, many of whom appeared not to happy about the gathering. Maybe the smart ones left. Another week or two and I'm sure there will be a report.

Reopened schools are closing left and right, because of the entirely predictable (and predicted) spread of C19. People still don't seem to get it or learn their lesson.

CC, I agree. The virus doesn't care if you believe in it or not, it will still behave as a virus does.

As predicted, accounts of people getting Covid at Sturgis and bringing it home with them are starting to come in.

Did anyone else notice the Covid tracker button on the Sturges page? I've been tracking the positivity rate in SD since 8-11, and it's trending up from about 8% to about 11%.
In AZ, the positivity rates are trending down, and two counties have met the requirements to re-open schools, including where I live, but the local school district has already made the decision to delay in-person schooling until October.

My buddy has a lincoln mark V rear axle that I need parts from. I however have to take it all. He's back from Sturgis, I believe I'll give him another week before going to visit.

And the virus has been spread in at least 8 states from people directly linked to Sturgis.

so, you're saying the virus wasn't in these eight states and because of sturgis it spread this virus into these eight states. I'm sorry but my info shows that the virus has been in all states since china allowed the release .
If you mean more exposure created more cases, then yeah, that's what happens with bacteria, viruses, colds ,flu......so what? Do you think the virus is just gonna go away, it'll be here forever , just like the spanish flu, hong kong, swine, west nile, etc  unless they get a real vaccine.....You hunker down, cases decline, step outside, cases return.........what are you gonna due, stay in your room the rest of your life?...and the minute some " expert" says all clear, come on out.....cases will start showing up again., and again, and again...Start school, one kid gets sick, omg panic, shut the school down.......1 month, open school again, kid gets sick, omg shut the school down again.....Shut school for a year, no vaccine , open school, one kid gets sick, ..omg shut the school down again.......insane.....like the motorcyclist I saw riding yesterday...with his mask on, laughable...was he wearing a helmet?...nope...insanity............
It doesn't mean the sky is falling, it doesn't mean  OMG we're all gonna die..........
We did exactly what we needed to do,  we prevented the massive overflow of ICU rooms and medical workers exposure.....so enough already...
Do we have to mention again, the devastating result of this illogical, extended shut down that has massively affected millions of people and their lives? That counts..a lot...it's not just about the virus .
0.006% chances of death 14 and under.....0.03% under 65....only 4% of the U.S. ICU capacity in use...
I flew to chicago then denver yesterday. Chicago traffic and people traveling is looking up. The plane to denver was almost full...including the middle seats....great...people going to see families, maybe returning from or going on vacations...fantastic. People from all over the country mixing , walking, eating, ....
And sturgis , a local event gets called out as an omg event?......to try and scare people?.....come on....
Here's 2020 flu numbers ...how many deaths in pediatrics?......
Stay home, hunker up, don't come out......your choice, my choice.........that's what it should be in a nutshell ....choice.....NOT mandates.......
Gonna watch my grandson play his first football game this season tomorrow. The association seems to be requiring masks....outside.....insane....but I'm not gonna cause a scene........but I should....

Um, that's not what anyone is saying. It's saying that there are now infected people in 8 states that are tied directly to Sturgis, as predicted, because a bunch of dudes had to prove how hard they freedom. There are now 181,000 deaths in the USA, and nearly 6 million cases. The vast majority of these could have been prevented by people taking precautions such as wearing masks, social distancing, and not congregating in large groups like Sturgis. I don't know where you get the number that ICUs are only at 4% capacity, but there are certainly ICUs in some places that continue to be swamped.

To you, this may not seem like a big deal. Apparently it doesn't. The "well, people die everyday anyway" approach, I guess. Or, as you put it, "we did what we needed to do," as if the danger is over and it's not still spreading and killing people. Remember at the start of this when people said, "look how many people the flu kills," when Covid had only killed ten or twenty or thirty or forty thousand people? And now that C19 has tripled that number, it's become, "well, the flu kills people too."

All this talk about "my rights" and "my choice," very little about "my responsibilities." 181,000 deaths in the US, 6 million cases. The highest out of anywhere in the world. Perhaps the worst response out of any country -- although Brazil is giving the USA a run for its money. And wearing a mask and not gathering in large groups is just too much to ask.

181,000 people dead, the vast majority of them could have been saved with minor inconveniences.

Hi Everyone..
Here's an interesting article just came across..makes some points worth considering..I felt.

https://www.cfact.org/2020/07/28/covid-19-the-way-forward/

BTW: Saw Governor of S. Dakota on TV last night (yeah @ GOP convention). She said that 'cases' are not necessarily symptomatic..mainly # of positive results from testing. That overall..their actual admission rates to hospitals are down..going down further.
So guess a lot of this depends upon how one wants to look at it.  Be glad when we're through this Covid stuff tho..
Cheers  Ichi.

Cfact is a right wing and libertarian "think tank," and the article would be kind of funny if people didn't take it seriously. It's fearmongering and nonsensical, and attempts to link C19 to climate change, both somehow harbingers of authoritarian overreach. Wearing a mask? An imposition on freedom. Common sense precautions? An infringement of our liberties.

It ignores the fact that had people taken precautions seriously and earlier, the US economy would be open as in many other places. Instead, it's arguing against taking any more precautions, and, essentially, that death is just the price to pay so people can buy stuff. The guy seems about as smart as a bologna sandwich.

News reports in Minnesota today report 48 cases linked to the Sturgis event.  Two in the hospital one of those in ICU.  In the morning a news report listed the number at 44....later in the afternoon 48 was the count.

For any who, for some reason, think that masks (and mask mandates) don't work, Ohio began instituting mask requirements in early July.

Hi Everyone..

I didn't start this thread to argue who's right or who's wring particularly. Yes cFact tends to be conservative in the articles they print.  But then if I may say so..so are some of the sources that a few others here have used to show "statistics' about 'how bad things are' equally liberal in their biases.

I hope that all of us can rise above the personal biases and whatever emotional 'convictions' we may have developed about the situation with Covid 19 (also called 'confirmation bias')..and simply try to consider the information available to us.

As I think I mentioned before..my background (for over 40 years) is in medicine and the health care field.  So my main interest is to help heal folks..not make them more anxious..or to try to prove a personal point just to look good..I hope for anyway.

Please don't despair any of you. We will all get through this current period with Corona virus (particularly those of you under 60) and hopefully will have learned how to not only deal more effectively with novel viral outbreaks..but recognize better what's really necessary..and what's overreaction.

Best wishes..Al/Ichi

Actually, the hospitalization rate in SD has risen over the last few days, along with the tripling of the positivity rate in the wake of the rally. Yes, the virus was in every state, and the thousands of people that converged on Sturges had some percentage of infected people that passed it on to other participants, as well as the local SD population.
This virus is extremely communicable, and transmission has been shown to be reduced simply by wearing face masks. It may not be an OMG death sentence, but it will be for some people, including younger folks, and there may be long term after effects, such as lung damage. Does anyone else remember the girl in her late 20s that had to have a lung transplant, or the young man who went to a Covid party because he thought it was a hoax, and admitted he #$%*ed up before he died? There was a recent case locally where a 38 year old man said he initially took the virus seriously, but when things turned political, he decided it was BS and let his guard down and got very sick.
