cb750k starter button internals
« on: August 13, 2020, 01:14:55 PM »
i just disassembled my right hand control switch form my cb750k2 that I'm restoring

it has some aftermarket starter switch which is horrible and loose.

i can find a replacement for the button spring and pushrod. but i have not been able to find the internal parts, so that i can fully rebuild them, they are the original controls.

anybody knows where i could find this parts, besides buying a used or replica control switch.

Does your switch have the plastic bit arround the button where the headlamp turns off when you push the starter?

I would recommend getting the rh switch with the lights on/off on it, the pattern ones have the wrong colour wiring but as long as you can use a multimeter i can talk you through it, wouldnt be the first time on here!!

when i get back home i'll take some pictures.

i think i'll have to get reproduction ones and be done with it.

where can i get the best reproduction ones

i have seen them on 4into1.com , cb750supply, and also on yamiya japan (they are more expensive)

also my left hand switches have seen better days....  since this bike is a bike from outside the usa (1975 k2), it did not come originally with the buzzer kill button below the switch....

the only ones i find with this configuration are the ones from k0-k1 but they run the cables outside the handlebar

i was thinking of this ones https://4into1.com/turn-signal-horn-switch-assembly-35250-341-672-honda-cb750k-1972/ and eliminating the buzzer switch (remove it)

Yamiya switches are good as originals, the others I have seen are not as good.

here's a picture of the left hand switch i took yesterday.

this ones do not have the buzzer button, and the wires run through the handlebars, i don't know if the horn button is original but might be. it does not say horn, it just says PA.

this ones i think are really hard to find, i will test them today with a continuity test.

they look similar to this ones form yamiya https://www.yamiya750.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=246_251_144_71&products_id=1926

but i will try to restore them.

and the right ones are more like this

https://www.yamiya750.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=246_251_144_70&products_id=927

if yamiya's are considered the best repro ones i will get those.

The K2 as seen in his replica picture has an off on switch. Inside the housing for the start button should be the plastic button, a brass or metal plunger that goes inside the button and a thin spring. One wire should have a metal plate on it that has a hole in it that the plunger goes through . The other wire is mounted to a brown type of fibre material that has a curved bottom and it slides into two grooves inside the body of the control. The simple trick is to push the spring back and slide the plate with the hole in it into the gap and line up the plunger with the hole at the same time.  Easy peasy  :D On some years you can use a salvaged horn button, plunger and spring, just did it recently but some years are not compatable like yours according to the picture. If you buy a repro kit with the button, spring and plunger be prepared to shorten the shaft and fiddle with it a little to work. Got some pics on another device I can put up later.
  Have fun !
Should note also that if your not doing a totally 100% stock resto there are aftermarket little buttons that can be wired in that fit the empty hole on the control.

The thing with the lh switch is do you have the front running lights in the blinkers, if so you need the correct US switch, the rh switch has two different ways of operating the starter, both can be made to work with easy alterations at starter solenoid, i can talk you through that as well

The original K2 headlight switch was OFF-LO-HI and the Start button just grounded to the housing/handlebars. It had a Yellow-Red wire for the Start circuit, which connected in the headlight to the main harness and ran back to the Start solenoid.

the 'PA' stands for pass - non-american models have a high beam switch incorporated into the horn button - holding the button to the right activates the high beam.

John

this are my LH switches

the closest i have found are this yamiya has  https://www.yamiya750.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=246_251_144_71&products_id=3985

worth usd515 (jeeesus)

mine have the same stamping  HM-10Qb-I but mine have a button instead of a push/slide button like the yamiya's in the picture (like you said it activates the high beam)
but the button on mine does not feel right... as you can see there is a hole to it's right side, like if there was supposed to slide like the yamiya's. the buttom part also has different hole positions.

the thing is i have no idea where i can find just the internals.

plus i already have a USA k2 new wire harness.  which would not have the appropriate connection for this slide mechanism that flashes the high beam. (i don't want to hack the harness)

the ones i think would work are this yamiya ones https://www.yamiya750.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=246_251_144_71&products_id=1926

for the k0 and k1 bikes....

just like mine it only has horn and blinkers.   my bike did not have the buzzer button as seen in us k2 bikes.

just rambling about.... what do you think

Loom is the same for all the switches, its just an extra wire to plug in in the headlamp

The original K2 headlight switch was OFF-LO-HI and the Start button just grounded to the housing/handlebars. It had a Yellow-Red wire for the Start circuit, which connected in the headlight to the main harness and ran back to the Start solenoid.
My K2 got that type of K2 RH switch. Ordered from 4-1. The K2 LH switch also from 4-1 has the fun buzzer disable when pressed which is handy.

I added the buzzer on my K2 build. Too easy to forget blinkers on. (First thing I removed from my K6 when bought it in the 70's ;) )
Some cars can react when I wait behind them at the red light with blinkers on, convertibles mostly.

I have recently bought a NOS EU RH switch that has P-LO-HI, no off button which explain the silly looking separate On-Off switch placed on the bar inside LH switch.

Parking is a good thing. My reflector has it, good for daylight or plan B.

I like Honda LH switch with Hi light flash when pressing sideways, horn pressing it inwards. Like my stock K6 had too.
