Topic: Touring Anyone?

I'm not sure there's any official project section over in the ST forum I joined like we have here, but I picked up a '96 ST1100 a couple of weeks ago because I want to do some distance with my daughters before they're off to college in a few years.  Assuming this stupid virus can ever be gotten under control..

Anyhow, I decided I'd look for nothing older as they moved from a 28A to 40A alternator, and decided to spend a bit more if necessary for ABS/TC if something came up.  Except for the top box I added, this was an hour away. 



No grand plans other than spend the winter taking it apart and checking/doing all the service work it needs.  Some tired/broken plastic here and there to address, but it seems to be in fine shape for 25+ years old.  It wound up to 90+ on the highway heading home like it was nothing.  I need to get used to the extra weight of a touring bike, but it's a Honda so I'm sure it will be fun to own.

I'm going to ride it around a few months and then dig in.

My son and I made our last trip to Laguna Seca in 2012 for the Motogp race. He had grown to the point it was no longer comfortable for us to ride two up on my K5. A friend loaned us an ST1100 for the trip down from Tacoma - my first experience with that bike. It truly is a good tourer. You should enjoy it. (The other photo is Casey Stoner shadowing Jorge Lorenzo at the top of the corkscrew soon to overtake him for the win.)
