WW1 Bikes Sold.
« on: August 13, 2020, 02:16:05 PM »
Still selling off my friend’s collection of WW1 Vehicles. The BSA Model K and this 4.0 h.p. Douglas Rig sold this week. The rig is off to Victoria BC. and the BSA is staying in a museum in Ontario. The Ontario collector rides all his bikes regularly. Nice!

Steve-O. 1918 BSA Model K. Came from England and a previous owner did the sweetest restoration I have ever seen. Not a washer out of place, every bit of paint, leatherwork, plating and polishing is perfect. Sold for CDn.$21K. Bill paid more for it in 2007, but values have dropped a bit since then, so we did OK. It went to a local collector who also has a very large, road side pub. Attached directly to the business, is his workshop/museum. He owns HD’s, Indian, Vincent Triumph and a bunch of others 100 year old bikes. Bill can drop by anytime and see two of his bike, with a sandwich!

Sold a 1918 NSU today, very neat bike with lots of amazing features. Drum front brake when most others were still using bicycle brakes. Note the spring and shock on the rear “soft tail”. No transmission, but a two speed (variable diameter) output pulley!

Must be pretty good just to be able sit down and study these old girls before you sell them for your buddy.

Actually, he doesn’t even ride, and totally mechanically inept! I’ve fired up most of them, and at least run them up and down his long, farm lane. Today we got a 1918 Model T ambulance up and running. It’s headed to Alberta, next week!

It’s a “5 h.p.”, specifically designed for that use. Actually worked well. Safe to about 45moh.....

Sold the last Douglas. 2 3/4 h.p. twin. Went to a pair of guys that call themselves “The Chinese Pickers”! Apparently they buy up stuff for Chinese collectors and pay cash! So of the original 14 bikes, my friend is keeping the 1918 Triumph Model H and he is letting me keep the 1917 Cleveland 2-stroke I restored for him years ago. Nice reward for helping out. If anyone is interested, I still have a 1923 Model T FORD Ambulance, 1918 REO Speedwagon (open pick up truck), and 1918 open Dodge Touring Car (documented ex- US Army).
