I've read some thread that advancer might need lubrication (can be yoir case) - did you try? Look into service manual for details what to lubricate.

Yeah I know you're supposed to put a little grease on the advancer shaft, which I did with some white lithium grease because it was within reach.

Maybe there's something else that needs grease?

Just grab the advancer and advance it by hand (engine stopped!). It only moves a small amount, but should be free and nonsticking. If it isn’t you can remove everything, clean polish shaft and hub, few drops of oil and reassemble. It’s a pain, b cause the points/ plate has to come off, then you start over.

I wonder if your grease is too thick and the advance isn’t moving freely. It should be a very light and small amount of oil. On my GL1000 it actually says not to use any oil as it can be too sticky and affect the advance. I used a drop or two of triflow oil after a thorough clean and polish. It has a nice linear and smooth motion now
