Long time rider, new to old Hondas.  Picked up a 73 CB500.   It’s a solid runner but, lacks the original paint and has after market exhaust like many do.   I don’t mind it really.  Not looking to restore to concours or hack it up.   Just want to ride it for what it is.

Insurance and storage limits my toys.  Love riding and tinkering.  Will post some pics soon.  Looks like a great place to ask questions and learn more.

Appreciate any tips, advice for those owners in the Greater Toronto/Golden Horseshoe area.

Cheers!

Sean

Hi Sean, welcome from SE Michigan.

Could you talk about Ontario motorcycle insurance costs and coverages a bit? I have been cautioned that my Michigan motorcycle insurance is no good in Canada, not that I will be allowed to visit anytime soon.

Welcome from Lake Superior,

Actually about 1 1/2 hours south west of Thunder Bay.   The 500/550 is a nice all around bike,  Express way, two lane and gravel roads with the same bike.

To answer Kevin D.  Get a certificate of insurance from your agent.  They usually are free of charge.

Nakkers & MD, have you found a decent source for parts in Canada?  I am in BC, and all I have found is Fortnine, and there are essentially no recyclers around me in the interior.

It was presented to me without any details that there were unusual and particular coverages required of Canadian motorcycle riders and that my Michigan coverage was far from that. I don’t remember having any cross-border motorcycle insurance problems in the distant past, but its been, oh, 48? years since I have used the Detroit-Windsor tunnel or the Ambassador bridge with my CB.

Its been a while, but I have ordered carb parts from Sirius.

Welcome from just south of Lindsay, ON. area

For parts, try: vintagecb750.com, they are in Ontario, but note the prices are in US dollars. I get my parts next day, when I order before 10:00am and shipping is free onorders over $150. Great service.

Thanks for the replies. I posted two separate intro so, my apologies to the mods and members.

@ Kevin D regarding insurance. I would consult with your agent or broker about travel to Ontario/Canada in general.

It’s my understanding that your insurance coverage insures you across the Continental US and Canada. However, there could be gaps in coverage or a lack of coverage. For instance, you may not have coverage for medical transportation back home or your home state may not pay for medical expenses from Ontario.

Many don’t ask and travel without issue because nothing happens when they come to Ontario.

If your broker or agent raises some concerns, I’m sure there are some relatively affordable travel insurance that will suit the bill.  Also some employers insurance might provide coverages too.

Appreciate the posts regarding parts sources.  Would love to find a salvage yard in SW Ontario or Niagara region.
