Removing Selector Drum Cover (HELP!!!)
« on: June 17, 2005, 05:20:11 PM »
Ok, I'm tearing down my '74 CB750K4 engine for a cafe racer project.  Follwing the Haynes manual and I'm to the point that I have to remove the Selector Drum Cover.  Of course the screw is not budging.  Talked to a buddy and he said its probably assembled with red lock-tite and the best way to get off will be heating and an impact driver.  I can see the scores on 2 sides of he screw and it looks like it was never turned before.  Can someone give me some insight on removing this puppy.

THANKS!!!

Nickbee,

The topic is removing selector drum cover.
Your post sounds like you are trying to remove the screw in the centre of the shift drum.
What are you trying to remove ?

As I remember it unless you have a broken pin (Very Rare) or are replacing the selector drum there is no need to dissasemble that bit. It wasnt originally loctited and just an impact screwdriver BUT tapping just the bit into the screw first, should remove it.

good advise guys!!  I am just following the manual and that's a step it listed before splitting the engine case apart.  Should I see if I can leave it in tact and remove the mechanism around it?

Now dont quote me as its 30 years since i last stripped a 750 but i think the gearchange and stopper mechanism will remove without taking that bit off. I got one to do soon as the kickstart goes roundy round without turning anything but nowadays i concentrate on the many 500's i got!
