Sealant on engine cases
« on: September 17, 2020, 01:15:36 AM »
About to join my split engine cases back together. Have a tube of Hondabond 4 to seal the mating surfaces.
Is it normal practice to use the sealant on just one of the mating surfaces or both of them?
Also do you use it on the entire  mating surface, even on the bits in the middle where the main bolts do up around the crank? Or do you only need to use it to stop oil leaking out of the engine and just do the outside mating surface?.
Thanks

Just one mating surface, a very thin amount. And you only need it on the places where oil will leak out into the outside world. But you do want to put it around the engine bolt holes on the crank bosses. Oil can wick out if not.
