18" Rear Lester wheel.
« on: August 26, 2020, 12:30:59 PM »
I have spent my time on unemployment this summer, restoring/modifying a 1974 CB-750/4. Early into things, I had a rear sprocket bearing come apart and damage my wheel bearing's. After looking into my options, I decided to buy a 16" Rear Lester wheel. I personally like the 16/19 stagger look on my Bike, maybe I'm crazy but I like the 16". Now I have a 18" Rear Lester Wheel, that is in pretty decent shape. And I've been told this is a pretty covited piece in the community. Been thinking about selling it, to free up fund's for other projects I have planed for the Bike. But I can't find any other examples, that I can base an asking price on. It's obviously rare, what should I ask for it?

Prices are all over the place. At one time I was seeing $500 for that wheel, but I think prices have come down.  If I were to sell the 18" 550 Lester in my stash (which I am not) I would probably ask $350 plus shipping.

You could get $500 if it was in New Old Stock (never used) condition.  That one is not.  This one has some significant wear and scratches.  The NOS ones I purchased for my 550 were closer to $350 each in basically new condition.

The 18" front is the rarest one out there.

They are around,  but I have an ongoing Ebay search for "18 Lester and almost every notice I get is for BMW wheels. Honda wheels rarely show up.

18" X 3" is very desirable, but that one has some pretty heavy tool marks around the rim and some unusual scrapes on the spokes.  If it were mine, I'd probably ask $250 and take $200.

Yeah, there are a few imperfections around the perimeter here and there. But the spoke's are ok. What your seeing is paint that has flaked away, the alloy underneath is undamaged. If a person with the ability, were to restore it I believe it has alot of potential. And yeah, all I've been able to come across are BMW as well. Thanks everybody, this has been very helpful. I'm thinking, because I haven't seen another example of one anywhere at this time, my best bet would be to throw it up on eBay with a reserve, and see what it doe,s if I were to try selling it. With no other examples to gage price from, I suppose it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it...

I may take Bankerdannys approach, and squirrel it away in the garage for a while.

And BMX Lester wheels too!

I've had two sets and sold them both off.

I just prefer spokes on my 70's bikes but my '82 Kaw has mags [not Lesters]

Yeah this front is all that's available for Honda's on eBay. The only other Honda Lester that has been up in the past 6 months I bought, and it was a 16" rear. That front is collecting dust at 500, it's kinda beat up though. I'd have to agree with Low Side, if I needed it to move, around 200 would probably be the number.

I mean yeah, he's asking 5, but it's not a good example for me, for one it's a front. And 2 this thing is seriously about to grow roots. So there something wrong with that price, and I've never heard of anybody, not pulling the trigger cause the seller wasn't asking enough...
