Name that Knock.
« on: August 28, 2020, 08:59:20 AM »
All,
I’ve got a 77 550F.  I’m still tuning on it so the attached file of the engine sounds a little rough.  I have a knocking noise that is starting to make me nervous.  I’ve noticed it for the last 2-3 weeks, give or take.   It surfaces when the bike is idling and in neutral.  I thought maybe a valve hitting or a spun bearing but you don’t hear it if the bike is in gear or moving.  I also noticed while idling and in neutral, if the clutch is pulled the noise goes away in a few seconds and returns the instant the clutch is released, or get considerably more metal to metal sounding.  This sound bite is just that,  the moment the clutch is released.

Does any one know what this would be?  I did adjust my clutch a over a month ago.  The dots are pretty much in alignment and the bike changes pretty decent.   Any help would be appreciated.   I continue to work on the bike, tuning in carbs and such.  I don’t want to do major damage by continuing to run with the knock.   Thanks

Dont do vids on my dumfone but normal reasons for knock would be primary chain and/or clutch frequently made better(but never removed) by getting points gap AND timing spot on, valve clearance adjustment and carb balance
