It's hard to beat a good handling bike with a fairing and bags for general use. My commute is to the shop out back but I can go to the grocery store on my 84' Honda Sabre 700 and get three 12 packs.

That's a fantastic looking sabre! I bet it's fun. It looks sort of like a BMW R1100RS, but I bet the engine as much more lively.

Thanks . It's a bit faster than most 700's and 750's. It pulls all the way to the 10.5 redline and makes 78hp. I've also upgraded the suspension with adjustable preload fork caps and a 2000' Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird shock so I can keep up with the modern bikes.

Find a DL1000 VStrom 1000 and ride it...they are really nice bikes. I have a '19 650XT Touring and like it. Wish I had just gotten the XT and then put a big set of panniers on it...the '19 XT Touring bags were too small. The 650 VStrom is very capable and a fun bike for me.

Tigers are good and the KLR650 has massive aftermarket support and is a great Touring and off-road capable ride if you want a bike geared towards off-road more, otherwise stick with VStrom or Tiger. VStrom 1000s are reasonable priced and durable bikes and comfortable. Since you plan on 2 up thus why I give the 1000 the nod over a 650.
The SV650 motor in the VStrom is a great motor, very durable, long life, and reliable.

Good choice on the ST.  I hope it serves you well, and you will go in style.

I have 5 bikes now, most ever.  Covid projects picked up cheap except what I had before, '13 Ducati Multistrada 1200S which is amazing.

Added an '82 Suzuki GS1100E w/Mr. Turbo kit, a '94 Yamaha XT350, and a '66 Norton N15CS (basket case, engine next to Ducati wheel). 

In front is my '73 Honda CB750 frame, just waiting on a couple little things to finish top end rebuild and reassemble.

I realized that in my lifetime I've owned bikes from 50's through the '10's, and have 5 different decades in the garage.

My other bike is 82 CB900 Custom because it followed me home.  Its growing on me but I feel the need for not naked bike, especially after riding Red on Ohio Turnpike.

Top of my list is Honda ST, wife would probably prefer Gold Wing.

I have a first gen 94' Kawasaki Concours for my road trip bike. It is a little more sport than touring in the handling department. Definitely way more fun on a curvy road than a Goldwing.

Prokop,The ST is a very heavy ride,over 700lbs? I think you'd like the Kawasaki Concours much better.

I really like the ST1100's, because I love that "across the frame" V4, I've only ridden one once, but it was a hoot. I've got better bikes like my Yamaha FJR1300 with over 235,000 Km (147,000 miles) and the engine has never been touched, but I do have a soft spot for an ST, and if I can find a nice clean one cheap, I might have to invest in one.........

 A guy that lives in my area hooked up with me for a ride and he was riding his new to him ST. He knows bikes well and this model was on his want list. He loves it. Bike had around 55,000 on it when he got it and still ran like a Swiss watch.

Yeah, I’d love to build a “Naked” bike based on an ST Eric, so everyone could see that beautiful engine. I might buy a crashed one and see what I can do with it.

You can't lean them into a corner but you can drift them through the corner if you want. That's almost as much fun and you are still out in the wind.

That's an interesting thought, I've got bikes from every decade from the 50's thru to 2019. 7 Decades. Hmmnn, If I buy a new Indian Chief next year, that'll be 8 decades. Or maybe I should just finish some more projects.

I have to say, the mid to late 90's BMW bikes, like my dad's R1100R's, can be bought for a song and are truly great bikes.  He paid 2,800 for one with around 30K miles and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to head on a road trip to nowhere 2 up on that bike.  It seems like they (among other BMW's) fly under the radar and never get much publicity.
