Side cover retaining clip
« on: September 04, 2020, 12:14:18 pm »
Has anyone fitted a new clip to secure the side panels as shown in picture ?
My problem is how to fit the spring dowel to the end of the pin while having to compress the spring
Your assistance would be much appreciated.

Klamp the tip in a vise and knock down the pin.

You could modify a broad bladed screwdriver putting a slot wide enough for the pin in the blade. Then assemble and depress the spring with the modified screwdriver. With the pin in a pair of needle nose pliers to fit the pin.

Get a friend. Slide one washer over the pin and let it sit flush against the pin head. Slide the spring over. The little offset end of the washer should seat inside the spring. Place the next washer the same way- offset side seats inside the spring. Now, with your thumb, in-depth and bird fingers compress the spring like a syringe while your friend inserts the retaining pin. Careful not to shot the whole thing across the room.

Jukku is right.  Inserting the end of the retainer in a vise with the spring compressed is the best way to drive in the roll pin.
