Too cold to mess with machines in the garage so work continues
on my latest panoramic camera the Pan-O-Scan.
Digital, true panoramic (no stitching), huge file sizes possible.

Post more pics when you get her out in the sun. Love Pan shots, just hate stitching the files together. It seems almost no software does it well. Maybe I just suck at it.  :D
Contact me for affordable rotor drilling services at $55 each rotor. Same day service on CB750/CB500/CB550 rotors. Next day on everything else.

If it weren't for the results you posted, I would have sworn by the pic of your "device" you were a descendant of Rube Goldberg.  ;D

Joking aside, can you post more pics of the camera rig? I'd love to see how it works.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Posted picture really tells the whole story.
--Lens navigates down the scanner as the whole thing turns.
--Lens choice is critical--old enough to be "fast"
and new enough to have good optics.
--Most old lenses were "fast" because film speeds were slow, but the
optics on a lot of old lenses wasn't too good.
--new lenses aren't too fast because new films can be fairly high speed
--finally arrived at lens from 40's 4x5 press camera "speed graphic".

With appropriate turn table this camera becomes a peripheral camera
-attached shows 3 sides of twin lens reflex.
This may be answering questions that have yet to be asked.

Dude! We've gotta talk!
About 6 months ago, we looked into buying a commercially made Panoscan! 30 grand! You saved yourself some money!
You've got to be the only other person I've seen who was enough of a freak to pursue something like this! I've been thinking in terms of playing around with a large format pano camera powered by one of my old scanners!
Ok, questions: what scanner is that? I assume that the scanner head is somewhat fixed to the lens, and the whole contraption turns? If so, what's the Hotwheels track for. Adjustment?
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!

Chris,

The scanner is a Canon LIDE 70--The great feature on this scanner is that it is powered by the USB cable as well as controlled by it.
Which means, of course, that this machine can be easily taken into the field if you have a laptop !
The lens actually moves independent of the scanner head. It rolls down the hotwheels track.
You manually keep the lens in front of the scanner head as it (the scanner head) moves. All the time you are turning the whole thing
through as many degrees as you need, of course.
But sometimes things can go Horribly wrong. AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

Hey Gerhed, you got an old twin lense yashica reflex you want to sell.
I took pictures for the home town newspaper when I was a kid and that
is what the owner gave me to use. I really liked it. It was a 120 format if
I recall correctly. Wonder how much one goes for these days, the old one
that is.

There are a number of them on eBay right now. Just search "yashica reflex."

Mine is a Rolleicord which is little brother to the Rolleiflex--both are 120 film cameras.
I'm not selling anything at the moment.
As Bob said the Yashica's are plentiful and generally under $100 I'd say.
There are also Mamiyaflex --
one model of which is an excellent Rolleiflex rip off.
I often shoot with a 6x12 120 back on a laser cut pinhole camera.

Ok, here's what you do! Do two images outside one about 2-3 feet to the right of the other. (the closer you are to the subject, the less you have to shift for the second shot). Go into "channels" , copy the red channel from the left image and paste it into the right image, replacing the red channel in the right image. View right image with red/cyan glasses (I know you have some) and adjust position of red channel to taste....Do this and you'll have 3D panoramas! (see below, view with above glasses)

Chris,

I had actually forgotten how to do anaglyphs (sp?).
Here's one from a while back--it's not perfect.

Yeah, that's the ticket! Was that done with one, or two images? I've found that two works better. I want to do an show of, like 30x40 prints and just have a pedestal with a basket of glasses in the middle!
I found plans for a two camera rig that would let you do both images at the same time so you could shoot movement or people!

Chris,

That was done with two images--about a foot apart--I think parallax (sp?) is important.
--like both viewing angles exactly parallel.

I actually had a few large prints at an art show a while back and a couple young good looking ladies
said that viewing the image with the glasses was making them sick and/or dizzy.
So watch out!
