Anybody know where I can have my 750 K1  gauges painted ?

I did my 400 clocks at home, I think I would have liked them even more if the paint I used had been a little more satin than gloss.

Are you going to take them apart, or do you want to paint them while they are assembled?

(I'm assuming, if you want to paint them assembled, you're going to remove them from the bike in order to do that .....?)

I'm going to disassemble them, if i can't find replacement faces I'll have to have them painted, I wasn't thinking about the painting the shell's. Do they chip at all?

I'm still a bit confused Pete.  Sorry.   So the actual gauge housings are fine?  It's the face plates with the calibrations painted on them that you wish to re-do - is that it?

The faces get serigraphed (silkscreened) not painted. Replacement faces sold on ebay. Nice used gauges alot easier.

So is that how the originals were made as well - silk screening?

As for painting the barrels biffta - I had the same problem with degree of gloss.  The third time i did it, I was happy with the result.  I used Dupli Color Engine Enamel (with ceramic).  The colour code was (and probably still is)  CDE 1634/GM Chrysler Black.  If you're interested, be careful though - that number, like a lot of stuff - may have a different number from the US number (for up here in The Great White North.)

IMHO it's a perfect black for the gauges - not too glossy and not so flat that walking close by scratches it.

Hey Zane, sorry i wasn't more clear. Yes, I want to have the faces re-done. I figured I would try to buff the shells and if that doesn't work I'd try paint. A real nice set of gauges are going for at least a couple hundred bucks on e-bay so i figure I might as well do them myself, they'll probably cost as much but at least I'll know what I'm getting. Not to mention the satisfaction on doing it myself factor.

Pete,  I got a set of face appliques for my F2 from ebay seller roberth9 for 29.00.  His email is rohowell@comcast.net.
If I ever get around to painting the inside and cases, they'll look nice.

Is there some reason that the first suggestion wasn't ElCheapo and his Anubis Cycle??  I haven't bought my clock faces yet, but I thought his sounded pretty good and he's one of the regulars here.  I'll probably buy mine from him, as soon as he comes up with a face with the correct redline for the F2 that is.

I'd say the reason the first response to this question wasn't "ElCheapo and his Anubis Cycle" is because the question wasn't clear.

Those faces look great jtb. I'm betting fade is going to be less of an issue as well. After seeing some examples i'm now thinking paint might be the way to go for the shells afterall.

PO had an accident and broke the gauges so i had to get new ones. Got some cheap because they were painted red. Disassembled them and painted the houses black with ordinary spraypaint from the cheapest spraycan i could find.
Assembled them afterwards Now the look great and shining black

He told me He's working on it! I'm waiting on a set myself. Are the 500-550's tach faces the same?
