k2 cam chain tensioner
« on: September 27, 2020, 09:57:56 AM »
I'm in the process of starting my cb750k2 for the first time

i have a question about the cam chain tensioner.

1.  loosened the tensioner bolts
2. did the method of setting the 1 cylinder at TDC then 15 degrees forward. checked the valve and it is closed.

but the tensioner bolt seems stuck....  i tried pushing it with a screw driver but it does not move.

any ideas what would be wrong?

should i just mist it with wd40 and try to move it with more pressure?

Maybe the tension was set before you got it? They have a spring to do the setting of the tension and you are not to push extra pressure on the tensioner rod.
You can squirt some WD40 in to lubricate the rod.
If it is noisy when you run it you could get a new gasket for the tensioner, remove the tensioner and inspect it to be sure it moves freely, or clean up the rod so it is moving freely.

I've had a tensioner that was seized up before on a new project. I do usually pull then and clean/lube while I have carbs off and doing all the other prep for a good first initial start-up. If your bike has been stored well etc.chances are its free. The other issue that can happed is a dimple can form on the ramp of the rod from tightening the bolt too hard and when its is checked and the bolt tightened again it slips back into the same dimple.

i will remove it and check it, i did not want to do it because i did not have the gasket to replace , but i found a shop that makes gaskets.

will remove it so i can  give it to them and make a proper gasket, and check the tensioner

i´m in colombia and there is no way to get gaskets for this bike here, it will take a month for the originals to arrive from the usa.
