CB750K3 Rocker Shaft Mods
« on: October 02, 2020, 09:43:10 AM »
I've read Hondaman's posts (and his book) on free-floatong rocker shafts, and I'm thinking about leaving the shaft bolts out of my K3 units so they free float. The wear is about half a thousandth on the shiny parts where the shaft sees the most force..

Is this really worth doing?
Does this affect reliability?
Is the half thousandth too much wear to do this?

I have a K3 with 80,000 miles...........left the fasteners out and now have a very mild 'ticking' sound with all else in spec..........I did not measure for any wear. Next time the motor is out of frame I will install the little cap-bolts and hopefully all will be a little quieter.

I would be hesitant to remove the lock bolts on an engine that had ware on the rocker shafts.  I suspect they might ware faster once they already had ware on the shafts.

I mount mine upside down. The right way is seen by a beveled surface where thread starts. I see wear, can not feel much by the nail.

I also use an old cam sprocket too, flipped it. It has marks how it sat before. It is a modified sprocket, holes grinded oval, enough to time cam. All other sprockets have very wide holes. An extra safety measure if bolts start to move avoiding chamber sallad.
