Thanks guys! Frank, the delivery guy is based in Brisbane, so I doubt if he'll be of much use to me and anyway, honesty is the best policy, I told the seller what everything is worth and he could have sold it all on Ebay for more, but he was happy with me, as I bought the vast majority so he only had to box it all up send it to one address. I also "appraised" some other K0 parts he had that I didn't need, just so he didn't get ripped off, there are a lot of sharks out there.......

The first boxes arrived today, and I was very excited when I saw the sidecovers, as they are in fact in original paint, and apart from a small break on the oil tank side that I can easily repair, the paint is excellent!

K0 13 Oct 2020 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Yes, it looks like a weird-arse maroon colour in my slightly dark lounge room, but take it outside, and it's the correct factory candy apple red. Woohoo! One less thing to paint! And while we're on the subject of painting, I won't be painting many body parts, because a K0 guru I spoke to this week explained that my bike should not have a wrinkle tank. Hmmnn, well if I don't need a wrinkle tank, then this non-wrinkle K0 tank on my K2 bitsa, in it's original Honda paint, will do the job.

K0 13 Oct 2020 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Yep, it's got a little fade and a dent (which I might pay a PDR guy to come over and remove) but it's original, and as much as we all admire over-restored statues of classic motorcycles, they're only original once, so I'm happy to have an original paint K0.

Anyhoo, there was a lot more in those boxes of treasure, but I didn't take lots of pics. I was more than happy with the oil tank, which once again looks so good I won't be painting it.

K0 13 Oct 2020 3 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I'll sell the wrinkle tank and my 69 engine cases, spare fork legs, brake discs and a few other K0 parts, which will pay for a Yamiya repro seat and some smaller parts. I was so happy I threw the frame and swingarm into the car and drove it the 2 miles to the sand blaster, and hopefully I'll have it back by the weekend so I can do the frame number-ectomy, and give it all a coat of nice black enamel. All in all, a good day! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That's a gorgeous side cover. Nice looking parts. Congrats on the score(s).
K0 should come together nicely. Does the tank and side covers go together colorwise? Look like different colors.
Gonna need more built rolling bike storage by Christmas or the first of the year.

What number is the frame you will use ? The wrinkle tanks  seems to have been  maybe not cutoof at a certain number, I think. Seems like for a period of time some had them still and others not... from what I recall.. could be wrong on that.
Your red tank has an extra stripe it appears... was it cleared over ?

Yeah Terry, surely you noticed the extra pin stripe on the tank...still thinking that's original paint?  It's cool old paint whether it is or not...I love trying to put bikes together without touching a paint can too!

Thanks guys, wrinkle tanks were stopped before #1020XXX, my engine number is 1020157 and frame is 1021XXX. (because I can’t remember the rest) Sean, yes mate, God gave me two perfectly working eyes, someone in the US (maybe the dealer, maybe an owner) added an adhesive stripe to complement the Honda swoosh, but I left it because I’d probably do more damage attempting to remove it.

Per, I’m not interested in doing another K0, this one will do me, I still have a K1 in bits to build, and the K1 is my favourite model. I’ll sell all my K0 spares so that someone else can put another one back on the road, while putting some cash back into my bike build funds. I bought a NOS rear fender for it this morning and put myself a little closer to the poor house.

David, as explained earlier, the sidecover paint does look darker inside in my dark loungeroom, but gets lighter outside. No biggie for me, I’m color blind so I won’t notice, and the headlight ears I painted an even darker candy red many years ago will look “wrong” to my OCD, but I’ll get over it, this bike, like all my bikes will be a rider, not a show pony.

Lash, no, I haven’t had a chance to strip that engine yet, and probably won’t in the near future, but thats fine, I should have my Effing F2 up and running for my daily rider this summer, once we’re allowed out of lockdown. ;D

Thanks mate, hoping to have it on the road by Christmas. I was around when the K0 came out, but always thought the K1 was a prettier bike. My first CB750 that I bought new was an F0, but my first “resto” was a K1 I bought from a school mate in 1980, who bought it when he was 14 and flogged it mercilessly.

He’d carved “Red Slut” on one of the sidecovers, and when we attempted to remove the spark plugs (which he’d never changed) the threads came out with the spark plugs.

Regardless, after rebuilding the engine, painting the frame and having the tank painted professionally, I rode the wheels off it, and it still holds my fondest CB750 memories, and I’ve owned over 20 now. ;D

K1 has nice details.
European K2-K6 continued with K1 style rear fender, tail light and blinkers.

K1 tank badges look good too.
The gauges with the built in pilot lamps an old detail  too.

Bring the old memories back is understandable!

Yeah mate, I learned how to bore cylinders on my K1 (and I now own the Repco boring bar that we used to take it out to first oversize) and it was my first engine rebuild after the top end melted because a "mechanic" used silicon sealant instead of new gaskets when he did a top end rebuild. I wish I still had that bike, it was one of the sweetest running CB750's I've ever owned. Still looking forward to getting the K0 on the road though, it'll be fun riding an original-ish K0, when the only ones I see here in Oz are trailered to shows. ;D

Thanks guys, yes Bill, I'm not gonna build another show pony that is trailered to and from bike shows, and lives under a blanket in someone's lounge room like some of the K0 owners I know. I've been really lucky that this thing hasn't cost too much, the vast majority of the parts are original 50 year old Honda parts in all their slightly faded glory, so I'll only use repro stuff from Yamiya where I need to to make it function.

Once the engine cases arrive (should be next week some time, the seller just sent me a message to say they're on their way) I'll get them bead blasted (not vapor blasted) and paint them, and build the engine. That'll mean pushing my Kawasaki Z1 build sideways for a little while, but because I bought a lot of stuff for the future K1 build, I have a lot of what I need to get the ball rolling. I did buy a set of restored carbs from the US for $1000 USD plus another $300 for shipping and taxes etc, which is insane, but they looked so good I had to have them.

I had the other 1969 cases, head and cylinder block vapor blasted in 2018 before I got sick so they're still looking like new, and when my frame comes back from the blasters next week I'll give it a nice thick coat of satin black enamel. The front wheel is immaculate, I bought it from a seller on Ebay in the US who had it advertised as a K6 wheel, so $80 (plus $100-odd for shipping and taxes) was a bargain as it had the correct disc and axle which are unique to the K0. The rear wheel is in pretty poor shape and I need to strip and rebuild it, but I'll probably throw a good K1 rear wheel on while that's happening, so as not to slow the momentum.

I've got new main bearings coming from Hugh Robinson, a very talented motorcycle engineer who I bought my cast iron disc rotors from, these are a "one size fits all" deal (like Honda's green bearings) so i don't need to order some brown ones, some green ones, some black ones etc, as you usually do. I'll stick them in and see how my oil pressure's looking, and if it's in the 60 psi @ 60 MPH range, I'll call it good. I did also buy a NOS OEM rear fender from the US for a whopping $350 USD, plus shipping and taxes, but the good thing is that the "single cut" front fender that I bought from the guy I bought the frame etc from is in really good condition, so my chrome won't look awful.

So what's "Redneck" about it? Well apart from not having it professionally painted, I'm also gonna run the old Koni shocks on it once I clean and paint them, a good used period Marschall headlight that I bought off an old feller on FB, and a new Delkevic 4 into 1 pipe, just because I like them. I'll also fit the repro K0 seat that's currently on my K2, but may eventually buy a Yamiya one, because they do look more authentic, but that'll be once I sell off some extra K0 parts that I don't need. Basically, it'll be a fairly clean old "rider", but definitely not a show pony. In years to come, if someone wants to pay my kids stupid amounts of money for it so they can over-restore it to wins trophies and trailer it to shows that's fine, but I just wanna put another one back onto the road, warts and all. Hmmnn, I just remembered I've got a new CycleX 849 kit in a box somewhere, and maybe an F2 cam? ;D

Yes Bill, that goes without saying! Here's my 1861 Springfield .50 cal Snyder carbine conversion that was used in your Civil War. I don't have a rifle rack for it, so I'll probably just sling it in case I need to clear the road ahead of wandering Kangaroos, or hippies....... ;D

Well,if you did that over here in the USA SouthEast, you wouldn't make much travel progress:many other rednecks would be pulling you over and asking you to let them all have a close look at That rifle. You would need to take the Interstate rather than the small rural roads:you'd be 'Mobbed' with requests;that's a Very nice antique rifle. The thing you may need to tell them Southerners would be that you 'Liberated it' from just across the Mason/Dixon line.

Thanks Bill, it is a lovely old thing, I'm not much into guns (I have access to just about any modern assault weapon in my other job) but I like old guns like old bikes. I've also got my great, great, grandfather's side by side hammer shotgun from around the same era as the Snyder, which I've actually used (blackpowder only, of course) and it  was great fun to fire. I was at a rifle range, and like you said about other folks being interested in the Snyder, I had a lineup of guys who'd put their modern guns down and were lining for a shot of the old gun. I also have my .22 BSA "Meteor" Air Rifle I bought new when I was 15. I just need to find a pair of Dickies bib and brace overalls and a baseball cap to finish off the whole redneck ensemble......... ;D

Well it's Monday and due to work, my weekly VA funded physio session with a therapeutic massage from Alice, ("Magic hands") some shopping for fresh ginger, lemons and sugar for my next batch of ginger sleeping medicine, and toilet paper as demanded by the wife, I didn't get much bike work done.

I did paint my alternative GPZ1100 alternator cover, but discovered that painting an alternator cover fresh out of my industrial oven @ 100 deg C instantly turns glossy engine enamel into "wrinkle finish", but as I was contemplating rubbing it back smooth and painting it again, I remembered that I don't even know if the engine will run, so fcuk it, it's going on, as is, I can always pull it off (and I say that with some reservations....) and paint it again, once I know it's a runner.

As previously mentioned, I have 2 cans of the most useless, innefective paint stripper. One can from Bunnings (#$%*) and one from Repco (even worse, if that's possible) so today I ordered a litre of acetone (some to clean off paint, some to add to my fuel to increase the RON from 98 to 115) and a can of paint stripper that actually works, from Supercheap Auto.

Hopefully it'll arrive before the long weekend (we get a day off this week for a parade of footballers who, due to Covid 19 are 1000 miles away, so there's no parade, but still a day off, what a weird year we're having?) The Supercheap paint stripper (Septone brand) is magnificent, so once it arrives I'll strip the paint from the cam cover and the starter motor cover, and give them a coat of (hopefully) satin black heat proof paint before I install the GPZ1100 engine into the KZ1000 frame.

But I digress. I still haven't heard from the sandblasters to see if they've sucessfully de-rusted the K0 frame, but I'm hoping I get it back this week. In the meantime, the "1 into 4" throttle cables arrived from the US last week, and today, my magnificent K0 carbs arrived. Wow, they look good.

4AD1127B-35AF-405A-A67B-08F48D552335 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

These will probably be the shiniest thing on my "KO of many colours" but I must say they do look magnificent. Stupid expensive @ $1000 USD plus another $300 for shipping, taxes etc, but I''ve always had crap from 4 cable carbs, so hopefully these things will work as well as they look. Fingers crossed. More soon. ;D

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

Thanks guys, the carbs were silly money, but I've got 95% of what I need to build a bike now, and if I don't have to fart around rebuilding a crappy set of carbs (which are as rare as rocking horse poop anyway) then it'll save me some time, and some pain. I better call the blaster and see if my frame's been done yet, they've had it a week, and they're usually a lot faster than this, so I better see what's going on. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, no Per, I’m only spending enough to just buy the things I don’t already have to put it on the road. New tyres, ignition (electronic of course) Delkevic pipe, and (maybe) Yamiya seat. I’ll be using old lights, blinkers, levers, switches, as much of the original parts as I can. It’s not gonna be a “Yamiya Restoration”, just a redneck restification, I’m building it to ride, not to trailer to shows...... ;D
